and reminds me of the run up to OJ Killing his ex-wife. Johnny isn't stable and his father said today that he doesn't think JF will make it to 24 if things don't change. His agent dumped him today and the Browns are going to cut him March 9th (waiting for salary cap reasons).

In the meantime, his G/F Colleen Crowley is a head case in her own right.

Manziel is an idiot and, with a suspect skill set/size, the Browns were crazy to draft him. He's a mess, even worse than anyone could have predicted. However, it appears that the girlfriend is as big a mess, or bigger. There is a reason why he hasn't been charged in either incident. That said, alcohol - and maybe other things - is adding to a voltile and erratic situation. Not sure about the OJ comparison, but this kid is a disaster.

I don't know much about his family but I like this move from his dad. True. Read the article and I didn't interpret 'they' as meaning the collective family at all. That would have been 'we'. I think it's clear the father has tried with no success and now he's depending on the NFL/ police/ hospitals, etc to get it done. Not going to happen. (Frankly, reading some stories on him during his A&M days you could kind of see this coming and it appeared the parents were part of the problem then. The issue is obviously coming to roost now).

This is a train wreck in the making and won't end well. Who was the kid from USC years ago that let drug/ alcohol addiction kill his career (Todd Marinovich??)? Seems similar in many ways.

He's got to hit rock bottom before he can straighten out.. With him though it is scary to think where the bottom might be. I hope that he doesn.t destroy someone else's life in the process.

Not sure that his Dad didn't use that as an excuse. He indicated in SI that he couldn't control him. There was a story about behavior on the golf course. Kid has talent, but is an entitled jerk. His "stint" in rehab last year, then his behavior after, said a lot about him. He was never serious about rehab, and used it to help his image.

Totally agree....one of the big problems is that people that are addicted surround themselves with other people that are addicted (Jerry Sandusky too, which is a different story). A problem is that it isn't just dropping the booze, but all of your friends too. That's where his erstwhile girlfriend comes in. first, as a red-blooded american boy, that would be pretty difficult to part with under any circumstances. But second, looks like she likes to party too. Death spiral by any definition.

I know a guy, and posted this several times in the old days, that knew OJ really well. He said that OJ was tormented by his wife. She'd dump him, OJ would be in the dumps. Then shed come back and everything was rainbows. Then she'd dump him. Of course, nobody can justify murdering her, but the two of them created their own death spiral, of sorts.

Speaking of Marinovich, I was just thinking that it might take a guy like Todd to reach out and get through to the kid. I just saw Marinovich in an interview and he's actually showing some signs of enlightenment from his nightmare. I'm not a JF fan, never was, but it's sad to see a kid melt down like this. He's going to end up friendless, penny-less and homeless...and he'll be lucky if he's doesn't end up dead.

I thought the same thing- that maybe Marinovich reaching out to him may get through. Then again, most people think they are special and it won't happen to them the way it did to someone else.

The kid is going to bottom out and the more the NFL or his family coddle him the longer it will take. I really hope he doesn't hurt anyone else in the process until he realizes he has to change.
