This quote from Cael’s Press Conference yesterday...

Thanks, dude! It's really refreshing when a mess board shares useful info and isn't just a steaming thread of mess. Although...BWI's Ignore function is something I've really changed my mind on over the years.
Hah! Mess board, parts of this thread, and some other, ahem Rutgers thread, could be considered mess threads!

Hey, at least you get to walk out of this debate feeling superior to a bunch of randos on the internet. Here you go!
🏆

More specifically, the hardest weight class to read right now imho is 49. The wrestler we will see this weekend at 49 in the duals (not necessarily the extra matches) is going to be the guy whose earned the #1 position in the room - whether that's Bartlett, Bear-Claw or Verk is going to be really interesting to see.

You clearly don't understand the difference between a #1 wrestler in a room at a specific weight-class and who potentially starts a specific match. A #2 wrestler at a weight class can start a in a specific match for many, many, many reasons other than Cael willy-nilly naming them the #1... You clearly have never wrestled in an organized room, so I'm not going to sit here and debate this nonsense with you.
You only need this one word to describe your posts. I was making fun of the word-twisting gymnastics you use so you can claim that what others are saying is different from what you are saying. You clearly have never taken reading comprehension in an organized room, so I am just gong to sit here so you can tell us how right you are.....again....and again.....infinity and beyond :)

Oh, heavily agreed!

If they've succeeded in getting as far as actually traveling, I'd guess that he'll try to get as many traveling wrestlers absolutely as many bouts as time reasonably allows. They're traveling 18 guys this weekend (via Twitter, via Match Notes). What's the most Extra Bouts people have seen? Pretty sure I saw at least 6 in a tOSU results list. Guessing we could see somebody like RBY maybe even get all 4 needed bouts just this weekend.
Traveling 18 guys, but no way Greg Kerkvliet is wrestling, right? Traveling to be with the team, but no action.

That's what the Match Notes say, though we've seen plans change in the past during normal times. I have not heard who traveled with the team this time, so it's anyone's guess. Will know tomorrow.

I'm also looking forward to who steps out--but I feel less confident that will tip the hand of who is sent to the conference tourney. Too many variable at play this year.

any chance he could weigh in, start the match, then forfeit? Would that count as a match?

Cael is not going to be "naming a starter" here either - whoever we see in the duals has almost certainly earned his #1 in the room. I'm really intrigued as to who we're going to see here due to the clear implications of what that means vis-a-vis performance in PSU's elite room.

Cael does like to have even guys who travel at least make weight and prep like they're going to go, even if they're maybe unlikely to actually go live. Like Rasheed to Arizona State last season, before Cael forfeited to Zahid (& before he pulled Brooks' redshirt and before Conel looked untenable and before Rasheed bumped to 197).

But Kerk's in zero danger of not making 285, so the weigh-in thing is not relevant.

I'm having trouble guessing about Kerk b/c of these available Extra Bouts:
1. On the one hand, we have Kerk's Dad informing us Kerk is rehabbing to become available for B1Gs and;
2. Otoh, we have the 4 Bouts required to be eligible to receive a wildcard, in the event Kerk places lower at B1Gs than whatever the B1G 285 auto-bid allocation becomes.

Actually, now that I've typed that second one out, there's nothing there that would really compel Team Kerk (himself, Dad, Coaches) to try to jam in some Extra Bouts. So I guess my guess is the same as yours: no way

I can’t wait until Cael NAMES the person who will be the STARTER this weekend.

Also JFC you are the most tiresome pedant on here. Except pedants often have a valid point.

How critical is it that Seth gets his 4 bouts?

One dual in the first week had a crazy # Extra Matches. IIRC it was Navy vs. Lock Haven, 24 extras.

Basically it was 1 vs. 1 in the dual, then 1 vs. 2 and 2 vs. 1 in the extras.

I'd say very...and am interested in jto's take too.

Agreed! Criticality of getting the 4 bouts is all about maximizing postseason flexibility--b/c you never know when 1 positive test will wreak havoc on a wrestler's remaining possible time.

Me thinks Cael will strive for two 4-match qualified wrestlers at several weights before Bigs including 125, 149, maybe 157 and Hwt. Heck due to Covid uncertainty he might try to go two deep at every weight.

How he gets there will be interesting but I think we will see some surprises this weekend, and the starters lineup will not be what he has in mind for Bigs either. I wouldn't be surprised to see Howard wrestle a 2nd or 3rd stringer in an extra match for instance to get one or two in to help with the count but not be over taxed against someone like Deaugustino right out of the gate.

Our first peek at the starting lineup might happen at Iowa, but even there maybe short Kerk.

I take it these are east coast times?

PSU vs. Indiana @ 12:00; Northwestern vs. Indiana @ 2:00; PSU vs. Northwestern @ 4:00.

Does anyone know how many refs will be working the matches? I recall someone saying they were limited to hiring just two -- but I don't recall if that was for a dual or a tri. If they could have four refs, the undercard could wrestle at the same time as the starters, which may allow for a maximum of 60 matches between the 3 teams (if each team brings two wrestlers at each weight). If there are only the two refs and considering the time constraints, then perhaps the undercard matches begin at 6:00 and I then wonder how long the two refs will continue to work before calling it a day. It might be that not all 20 of the PSU wrestlers get a match if the starters wrestle twice. Looking forward to whatever it is!

That was the infamous ' 21 Guns ' that said we needed 8 scoring wrestlers. CJFisJoPall was formerly Bushwood and his writing style has not wavered in the least!
This thread got good once people stopped arguing with the guy who yells at clouds for being cloudy.

Know your foil and it can clean things up considerably.

Yep. I would think the starters are probably already known. Heck they’ve been practicing for what 2 months just waiting for a meet. Nevertheless it will just be great seeing the bits in action.

This...I take the quote in the OP to mean he just wants them to get “matches.” Maybe it’s in the dual, maybe it isn’t.

Could we see Kerk do a 1 second injury default? And if so would people put Cael into Dresser/Last Chance Open territory?

ummm... Cael naming starters..... Let's get Spyker to ask him if he has a plan... the rest of you are just speculating!

Agreed, im out! 😤
If Cael doesnt name the starters, then who does?
Just when we thought you were out, you pull you back in. :)
