DETROIT -- The Detroit Martin Luther King football team is loaded with prospects this season and senior cornerback LaVert Hill is already heralded as one of the best that will take the field for the Crusaders this fall.

Not bad, considering that Hill has not played in a King uniform yet.

After transferring to King after three seasons as a rising star in the Detroit Cass Tech program, Hill is excited about a senior year now that he has settled in.

"The expectation right now is pretty high for our program," Hill said. "We've got a lot of talent on the team and we've just got to come together and work hard to get that championship."

Back in January, Hill committed to Penn State and has not once wavered in his stance with the Nittany Lions.

"Penn State, it's a really good school," Hill said. "If you haven't seen it, you need to go there. The fans are amazing. The coaching staff, they show you a lot of love and they recruit you hard."

Hill (5-foot-11, 173 pounds) is ranked the No. 10 cornerback in the country by 247Sports and should certainly play his role in King's success this season. A head-turning talent at every camp he attends - including Nike's prestigious The Opening camp in July - Hill credits his development with playing alongside and against top talent at King and Cass Tech.

"Some people don't give Michigan the credit it needs," Hill said. "There's a lot of talent in Michigan. It's pretty good playing with the top people."
