This weeks opponent

FBS RANKING OFFENSE DEFENSE
Rushing 126.5 (97th) 145.0 (65th)
Passing 278.8 (34th) 239.3 (80th)
Overall 75th 72nd

It is a B1G road game, granted.
But to me it is the perfect opportunity to gel and kick off the cob webs before the bye weekend.

Are they ready? Are you ready?

I'm ready. Everybody knows the better team doesn't always win. Upsets happen all the time. But this would be Titanic-level. I completely expect to roll the Mildcats, and if we don't roll them, we find a way to win anyhow.

We have Barkley. And they do not.

Round about three o'clock on Saturday, you'll find Northwestern floating face down in Lake Michigan.

I pulled a hammy getting up from my chair on Saturday, but with a little ice (and bourbon), I should be ready for Saturday. Put me in coach - I'm ready to play. Today.

I'm really looking forward to a game where we can see the O line shine, which means fewer sacks, and some effective runs up the middle.

I'm not ready. Still need to work on McSorley's punting. And he seems to have a hitch in his baseball swing.

I also haven't heard from the trainers about which TEs will be available. Sorry but the game-plan can't be finalized just yet...

Yeah, what we need is a mediocre-to-crappy defense to play against. That's the ticket!

I am nervous. But then again, I am nervous about every game. I keep thinking back to 1994 and how dominant they were. They were times they would be 3-4 TDs by end of Q1(with the offense scoring) and then would be on cruise control from there. However, after the last 2 games, I am nervous about every friggin' game!!! Meh, maybe I just need to drink more....

OK...so you are the d-coordinator at NW and you are well aware of these stats.
What is your game plan? Run blitzes, crowd the box, focus on slowing down Sa Sa?
Blitz Trace? Zone? What do you do, what do you do?

Just to be clear, I didn't call Northwester a mediocre-to-crappy defense... if we end up with 250 yards rushing for the game, however, I would be extremely happy.

I expect NW's D to do the same thing that Pitt, Iowa, and Indiana did - sell out to stop the run. I also expect they will be successful in doing this, though I expect PSU to win the game.

Iowa did not sell out to stop the run. They actually played a soft scheme aimed at keeping everything in front of them. Iowa focused on taking away the big play passing game. In doing so, they gave up the underneath stuff and us some room to run.

They were able to take away the deep shots. Aside from that they didn't stop boo, either pass or run. Better execution on our part and we put up 40 and run them off the field.

I hope and pray Northwestern plays the same scheme as Iowa. If they do, we'll blow them out.

Don't worry. If McSorley can't punt Barkley can probably do it.

On Iowa: There was one deep shot that they didn't take away: A deep ball to Blacknall on the games' first possession that was wide open for a touchdown, but was overthrown.

Yes, you guys are right - I shouldn't have included Iowa in that list.
