With Farmer and Bowen slated to start as of now, that is some serious speed on the outside. Article on TOS said Farmer is up to 233. Have we had a set of OLBs this fast/quick before? Conner/Lee maybe.

At one point we had Connor/Poz/Lee on the field at the same time.

And Bowman/Hull/Lee.

And Mauti/Hodges/Carson.

Not to mention: Bell, the one guy being replaced, "played faster" (which is the only thing that matters) than any of the other LBers last year.

How that starting LBer corps starts to shake out will be one of the more interesting things to observe at BW

I agree these guys have superior foot speed, but what is just as important for LB's is there reaction time in reading the play and making the break to the runner. A couple of 10ths of a second better reaction times often is more important than an extra step in a 40 yard dash. This is what you really see in a player like Sean Lee that make him exceptional: extremely quick play recognition and reaction. Let's hope our current crop of LB's have what it takes. If they do, this will be a great squad. I'm excited to see these kids play!

Bowman too. Not only did he have great instincts, but his positional awareness was uncanny. He was rarely out of position and always took the most direct path to the ball. And he could shed blockers like bothersome flies.

2005 team NFL combine or pro day 40s. This group was pretty fast:

Tim Shaw 4.51 (combine)
Dan Connor 4.67 (pro day)
Paul Posluszny 4.70 (combine)

I'm guessing Cabinda and Bowen are both in the 4.7 40 range. Neither are in the top 3 in the weight room for linebackers (4.63 slowest).

Tim Shaw was faster than every linebacker here. Add Dan Conner (4.67) and Sean lee (4.71) or Posluzny (4.7) this may be the fastest group or the group that played the fastest. But Tim Shaw put up a 4.51 at the combine

Wasn't Shaw a RB turned LB?

Yes he was, and IIRC he burnt his shirt when he ran out on a special teams play when they were one guy short (I don't think he was supposed to be there). Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this but that's what I remember when he was a freshman.

It's far more about "quickness, shedding blocks and thinking (right place at the right time)" than "speed". I recall experts saying that Tamba Hali was overrated because of his poor 40 time at the combine. ????

Speaking of Tim Shaw, has there been any update recently on how his health is doing?
