I didn't realize James got 6 year deal. Just didn't pay that much attention to it. I was of course aware of the large salary...
"...$4.25 million over the course of a six-year contract that expires after the 2019 season.
"I have not seen a check since I got married," Franklin joked after introductory news conference last January. "I get an allowance. I'm usually at the office around 5:45 [a.m.] and I get home around 10 [p.m.]; it's hard to spend a whole lot of money.
"I don't do this for the money...."
OK, fair enough It's Not about the Money James.
So, here are some random thoughts and questions:
1. I Was a big fan of the hire. I'm Not ready to throw in the towel with the staff.
2. 22 games into his PSU tenure, some questions certaily must be asked:
Will Donavan improve as OC when he "gets his type of QB?" My guess, maybe a little, but not a lot.
Will James stick w/Donavan until the bitter end? Probably
When will Shoop leave? Betting man says within a year or two when he finally gets his shot as HC
Who replaces SHoop? that's a total unknown. Sombody as good or better? - Ahhhh, I doubt it
3. How much is Coach Hand responsible for the "usually abysmal" OL? How much of these OL problems are a function of "youth, sanctions, whatever"???? Some for sure, but not all of the OL problems. The staff has had these players (OL) for 2 yrs, w/summers, w/Fall practices and almost 2 yrs of Strength Training.
Personally, I now consider Hand a Liability.
4. How good are the other assistant coaches? Hard for me to judge. I give them a pass for now.
5 James with a 6 yr deal is good for at least 2 more years, and most likely 4 more.
6. If OM stays 2 - 5 more yrs at OSU, it's very unlikely we unseat them as the big boys of the conference. Not as long as OM is there.
7. Get used to 8-4 or 9-3. Maybe with a good tail wind, 10-2 once in awhile. Maybe that's good enough.
Opinions welcomed.
