Ticket problems in Indy

I bought a cheap single ticket in the 600 level off StubHub. When I got to the gate they scanned my ticket and a big red X popped up on the scanner. My ticket was rejected. The security guy told me I had to go to the ticket office and pointed off to his right. I headed in that direction and came to another gate before finding a ticket office (granted, I was pretty inebriated at the time so finding the ticket office may have been difficult regardless). It was getting to the point where I may miss kickoff if I didn't get inside soon so I just got back in line and gave it another try. When I finally got to the front of the line the same thing happened. They scanned it 3 times and got rejected all 3 times. The security guy finally just said, "go ahead in" and let me go.

I'm guessing someone sold their ticket but still used it (before me). Since I was alone I never did go to my seats to see if someone else was sitting there. I found a nice seat on the 200 level at the 20 yard line that worked just fine for me. I sat next to a nice older woman and her 3 kids in their 30's. We had a great time, but man did I get the scare of my life!

I'm surprised that this kind of thing doesn't happen more often. Some people are just looking to scam the system, unfortunately.

I was victimized like that in Philly once. Eagles/Cowboys Monday night game. Buddy and I bought tix from a scalper in the lot. Sat in our seats for about the first 5 minutes of the game. Ushers came and removed us, said the tix we had were stolen. Went to the bowels of the stadium for interrogation. Once they realized we were clean they let us go, but said we couldn’t use those seats. We walked back by the seats and noticed the guy that sold us the tix in the lot was now sitting in the seats.

I was always under the impression that when a ticket was sold on stuhub a new bar code was given and the original bar code was made invalid. I would contact stubhub and tell them you couldn't get in. Chances are they will given you some sort of credit on your account to use for tickets to another event.

Wow!!! That sucks. I'm just having a hard time figuring out how they scammed you, and then got into the game though. What ticket did they use?

I've always been wary of buying a ticket from a scalper for these same reasons. You just never know if someone sold that ticket on StubHub, and someone got in with a printed confirmation of the ticket (so the original ticket is now invalid); then that person sells the original hard copy of the ticket, to a scalper; who in turn sells it to you.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. If I had more time and if I was sober I probably would have gone to the ticket office to try to get things straightened out, but I just wanted to get into the game at that point and I was able to. I am going to give them a call later today. I will report back.

I buy tickets from scalpers all the time. You know how I try to prevent getting scammed? I ask the scalper to hold up the tickets so I can take a picture of him holding them. I tell him, "if the tickets are real, I'll delete the photo". However, if the tickets are fake, I'm going to the police. A few scalpers have told me they wouldn't let me take their picture, so I didn't buy their ticket. The guys who let me take their pictures? I've never been screwed on a ticket yet. Knock on wood ;)

This was probably 15 years ago, so technology was a lot different. We were convinced it was an inside job of some kind. If I recall correctly, security said they were stolen from the person's mailbox. I assume the people were given replacement sets.

I took a 2 x 4 to the gut Saturday night because of StubHub. Not telling the price I paid for tickets, but it was much more than the $11.43 - which included the fees - my friends paid Saturday morning for their tickets. They were in the 600 level and 6 together. Other levels did not have 6 together.
The 200 level Saturday morning on StubHub was $10 a ticket according to them. Money I could have saved would have paid for the hotel room for my son and me.
Lesson learned.

We sell our tickets to Ravens games on The NFL Ticket Exchange. As soon as the tickets are sold our barcodes invalid and new bar codes are issued. If you try to use the original tickets you can lose your PSL. This is also how they know if the PSL owner is sitting in the seats or not (if someone buys your tickets and get ejected it is not on you. now if you sell/give your tickets to someone and they get tossed then you could lose your PSL). I'm not sure how StubHub works - do you have to enter your barcode? If so, then how could the system not know a new barcode was issued (and if they aren't issuing new barcodes then StubHub should get shutdown).

I got hard tickets on eBay. 4 x $225 - $900, Awesome seats.

The eBay guy mails them from Indy on Monday I got them on Thursday so no problem there. Received them in an envelope with a stamp only: no Tracking, no nothing. Couldn't believe he didn't get Tracking. Heck I would have overnight-ed them with signature confirmation. Ebay policy is that for Seller to get protection they need to ship with tracking and signature I believe. I could have easily said that the tix never arrived and he would have been SOL if I turned around and sold the tix. Now I would never do that.

Hey all, I just wanted to follow up on this thread because I finally got around to calling StubHub today. They said I should have called them while I was at the event and they would have handled the situation (issued new tickets). They took down some information (time I tried to enter, the gate I tried to enter, etc.) and filed a "claim". They said I'd be getting a refund within 3-5 business days, this, even though I did get into the game. I have to give StubHub customer service an A+ in this case, assuming I see my refund.

This -- I may have missed it, but why didn't you do that then?

Frankly, because I was drunk...

As I said, I headed in the direction the first security guard pointed me toward to go to the ticket office, but I came to another gate, so I tried again to get in, and was successful. Once I was in I didn't much care...
