Today’s shocker (not really): No PSU football coverage on espn.com.

I checked headlines and scrolled down the page and saw nothing on PSU. Granted it was Idaho, but it was still a very impressive win given all the new faces and youth.

Maybe espn really does hate us.

And yet ESPN moves Penn State up to number 5 in their power rankings. They clearly hate us and take every opportunity to screw us over.

I didn’t see that. At some point, they can’t deny such an impressive win.

They covered our highlights at halftime of the Auburn/Oregon game on ABC. One of the commentators mentioned to look out for us in the B1G East, and that there’s a whole lot of talent on this team despite losing Trace.

Not one mention of the OSU Sexual assaults of their student athletes and cover up. Nary a word on BTN. But lots of hype on Justin Fields.

Right. We have to hear about Bo Nix’s manufactured Heroics. His stat line was horrible, but he was the hero of the day

You know, that is the game that aired in their network, so it HAS to be the lead.

Penn State played yesterday?

Does he still have a job with them?

My point is that the narrative that ESPN hates Penn State hates us is bogus. Penn state played Idaho on a game that wasn’t even broadcast on cable (BTN Go only I believe).

It was on btn. I watched it.

To be clear, the narrative is everyone hates us but espn hates us more (I hate us most).

Every fan base thinks ESPN hates them. People hear and see what they want to hear. Our fans more than most. Quite honestly no one cares that we beat Idaho regardless of the score.

Armstrong cable doesn’t offer BTN, my $175.00/mo cable subscription doesn’t give me ESPNU so I couldn’t watch College Football Finale, so I’ve seen zero PSU highlights.

Bumping a thread from a couple of weeks ago. Once again, nothing about Penn State on espn's college football page. Not even anything bad. It's as though we don't exist.

I'm generally not one to give into conspiracy theory, even though I began wearing a designer tinfoil hat regularly in 2012, but I do believe that espn is biased against us.

I still hate us more.

I think this has more to do with playing on a Friday night. Most people don’t think about college football on that day (other than Akron vs Louisiana- Monroe type games).

By the time Penn St won it was 11- 11:30pm. They got mentioned briefly on the espn highlight show that night but were pretty much a side note as espn was mainly focused on the baseball playoff races.

On Saturday morning the whole college football world ‘resets’ with the college game day crew focused on all of Saturday’s games. Friday games are already forgotten. It’s certainly not the day to play if you want a lot of media coverage of your game.

We'll see how that theory works out when tO$U plays Northwestern on Friday, Oct.18th.

Normally I’d agree except being a national title contender changes the math. No one in the media is pushing Penn St as the #1 team.

Ohio St is the new team being promoted for #1 by Herbstreit, David Pollack, Desmond Howard, and Rece Davis. That’s just about the entire ESPN game day crew.

Their actual game from that Friday against Northwestern will barely be mentioned..... but Ohio St will be mentioned anytime there’s a discussion of who is #1 (especially by Herbstreit who, at this point, might as well show up on the game day set each week in an Ohio St cheerleader uniform ;)).

Penn St would have been mentioned the same if they were a national champ front runner this past week IMO.

Which is exactly what the OP was saying. Welcome to the ESPiN hype train.

Well, considering we’re not yet even a Top Ten team, what’s so surprising? We’ll get our coverage in the weeks to come.....good or bad.

I was responding to Bob’s post about the lack of Penn State coverage from espn after the Maryland game on Friday. IMO, if Oregon played Arizona on Friday night there would have been the same lack of coverage.

Of course espn hypes teams. Their new push this week was Ohio St. The OSU vs Nebraska game on Saturday night was nothing but a free promotional ad for Ohio St narrated by Kirk Herbstreit.

Right. So since it's ESPIN, we get no coverage on a Friday but tOSU will get plenty.

Our chance to be included in the discussion is coming later this month - if we’re able to beat 3 ranked teams in consecutive weeks (2 of which will be on the road), then it’ll be hard for them to not discuss our “resume” in regards to being a legit contender.

Exactly. Beat those teams and they’ll be in the contender group and receive more coverage from espn.

That stretch may end up looking worse than it is.

Michigan probably won’t be ranked when we play if they lose to Iowa this week. If they lose to Iowa and us they definitely won’t be ranked after our game.

If Michigan beats Iowa, Iowa will end up unranked if they drop a game to us as well.

MSU will likely be unranked. They’re not right now and will likely be coming off back to back losses to Ohio state and Wisconsin.

They're actually 25th right now. You know, that way when tOSU beats them this weekend they can say it was against a ranked opponent.

espn's college football page is simply a bunch of headlines with links to the articles. The list of headlines is endless. They can't fit one Penn State headline there? Nothing at all? Twelve headlines about Tosu and none about Penn State?

NONE.

In general, espin ran hard on the "recent unpleasantness" of several years ago. Why? Well, #1 is it was a major story that seemed to blow up and feed on itself as media tried to one up each other on courageousness. #2 is that espin is chock full of Syracuse grads, many younger fans do not have experience with Syracuse as a rival. They were our #1 rival for many years through the 1960's and beyond. Their grads still have an ingrained animosity toward PSU. Their broadcasting major is very popular and quite good AND many of their grads end up at espin. This animosity ends up feeding their attitudes toward PSU and likely always will or for the foreseeable future. It's a fact that many don't grasp and the underlying enmity is sometimes evident.

All fair points. Still a chance they’ll be ranked when we play them. Regardless, if PSU is still undefeated going into November, the polls and pundits will not be able to ignore us at that point. Until then, I’ll enjoy life under the radar....gives our young (4-5 star) talent time to grow up and be ready for the final push.

To those who believe Penn State needs to establish itself as a consistent playoff contender to get espn's attention, consider the following. At present, the eighth headline down the middle of espn's college football page is, "Mike Gundy: 'I'm a closet Donkey Kong guy'".

Scrolling espn’s college football page this morning, florida-lsu is the first game recap. Penn State-iowa is next. Below our score are videos. The featured video is the iowa touchdown. Figures.
