This weekend coming up is setting up to be a fantastic one. Great weather, PSU kickoff, and most importantly A NEW TOOL ALBUM! After 13 years I am more than ready. Really loved the single “Fear Inoculum” (longest song ever to crack the top 100) and can’t wait to see what the rest of the album sounds like. Close to 80 mins, so it should be a ton to chew on.

Until then...Spiral Out....

I’m just glad they decided to finally put everything on streaming. Can’t tell you how many times I would be working out and think “man.... this would be a great time for Aenema or Hooker with a penis or Forty six and 2 to come on”.

AMEN!! Their CD’s were literally the only ones I still had in my car!!

My son played me Fear Innoculum in the car as I was taking him back to college on Thursday... incredible track ...

Maynard did an awesome interview with Joe Rogan and talks about a lot of things (like how he uses trained hawks to kill pesky birds/animals who destroy his grape vines) and when Rogan mentions the streaming stuff MJK implies the reluctance to release their music online was not his; my guess is Adam Jones was against it for a long time but finally came around. Tool is the best band I’ve ever seen live - by a mile.

When I listened to that interview you can definitely tell there’s some friction between these guys. I think your right with Adam. He seems to be driving a lot of those decisions. He snuck little comments in here and there about “bands” having issues to quickly say “but not us” with that Maynard sarcasm.

With him having SO many outside interests, I really wonder if this is the last album from them we might see. I feel like 90% of that interview was more about those outside interests. He seemed to really enjoy talking about that, but when it came to talking about the Tool in particular it was short and to the point.

I’m gonna enjoy this album, no telling if we get another.

that's exactly where I heard MJK talk about this. That was a good episode. The more I hear or see him on JRE the more i'm impressed by him.

Heard 1/3 of it on way to work, sounds great. Danny Carey is a manic! Tour dates set too Landing at Wells Fargo 11/18 and Newark 11/16. On tour with Killing Joke.

They're in DC on 11/25, Philly on 11/18, and Pittsburgh on 11/8 - might take my dad to this one; he's a big fan of theirs and I think he'd be blown away (he's never seen them live before).

That aside, I haven't had a chance to get through the record yet - have been reading reviews online and they're mostly very, very positive (waiting for Rolling Stone and Pitchfork to chime in...). What does everyone think so far? Able to rank it with the others yet? Without listening to it yet, I can't put it on my list, but right now the list would go:

5. Opiate (EP)
4. Undertow
3. Lateralus
2. 10,000 Days
1. AEnima

I’d rank it somewhere between Aenima & Lateralus ( my 2 favs). Quite a few short intermediary soundscape tracks. A little different vibe, IMO, I guess I would qualify Fear Inoculum as a more mature Tool.

I had to do a ton of driving today and was able to listen to it 3 times (with 4 repeats of Invincible). I gotta say it's one of my favorite things they have ever done. Favorite track at this point is Invincible. The last 6 minutes of that song is amazing from a rhythm standpoint. There isn't a "Hooker with a Penis" or "Jambi" on this one where it just hammers away at you from beginning to end. All of the tracks start off light, perfectly wander musically through about 8-10 minutes, and then end of in perfect Tool fashion.

One thing I have always had a hard time doing is ranking Tool albums because of how different the last 3 have been musically. Almost like a totally different band. This one is no exception. I'm sure next month I will love two other tracks more than Invincible. That is the one that just grabbed me first listen. 7empest is amazing. For a 15 minute song it doesn't seem like it's more that 5. At no point do you get bored as they work their way through it. My 11 year old daughter was a big fan of Chocolate Chip Trip (I think the name really resonated with her since she sees herself as a self proclaimed dessert expert)!

All in all a great piece of work. Looking forward to really listening to it a couple more times and getting to know it.

Great reviews so far.

Even though CD’s are passé these days, the special edition CD package with the video screen, speakers and rechargeable battery looks cool.

I’ll definitely grab one at some point. Still the only band I get their actually cd for at this point (love the 3D images on 10,000 days). My daughter is big into vinyl and I am debating jumping into it with both feet as well. Putting a system in down the basement and just loading my back room with vinyl starting with this one.

I’ve been sitting out back listening to it yet again and I gotta say...Maynard SHINES in Descending. What a perfect song. I keep creeping closer and closer to making this my favorite TOOL record ever. I don’t ever want to pass any track. Listening to Descending now and it just such a great track.

I can’t wait to see them Nov 18!!

Got tickets for the Friday Nov 22 show in AC.

Once I seen they had a Friday show, it was an easy decision to pass on the Monday Philly show and hit the Friday AC show, enjoy some drinks and dinner, and spend the night.

Can’t wait to see them live again!

Got my tickets for San Antonio today. I was a little disappointed at the pricing, usually Tool is more reasonable and these set me back $150 a seat but I know it will be a great show. I think this will be my 4th time seeing them live.

So there's actually a band called "Hooker with a penis" out there recording and/or performing? At the risk of serving as the straight man for several quality punch lines, what is the band's (musical) genre?
