Lots of internet chatter that Kyle Snyder will forego the remainder of his Olympic RS year and will be in the Brutus lineup for the PSU dual. Announcement to come on Jan 1. Not sure whether he will be at 197 or 285 ...

Of course, we already know that Brutus is burning the Myles Martin tan shirt, and that Martin will be in the lineup this weekend for the Illinois dual. And Hunter Stieber is supposed to be back in early January. Looks like Ryan is pushing all his chips to the center of the table this season ...

Wow, not sure if that's a good decision for Snyder. Also first I've heard of it, would immediately make them a contender if he goes 197. Where else you seeing it?

I still think Hunter Stieber is the key. They may be feeling comfortable with how he's looking and this makes pulling Snyder out of redshirt make a lot of sense. Potentially hurts us and Iowa more than Ok State. That said, Morgan handled him at Big 10s - he can certainly do it again.

Keep in mind, it's not yet clear (at least to me) whether Snyder will go at 197 or 285. Mark Martin hasn't shown us much yet at 197 and Tavanello is at least pretty decent at 285, so I think the stronger lineup is Snyder at 197 and Tav at 285 (rather than Martin at 197 and Snyder at 285).

Snyder previously indicated that he would be at 285 when he returned to college wrestling, but I don't know that he was planning to cut short his Olympic RS when he said that. Guess we'll see how it works out.

Agree. And doesn't he have a short time to put back on the good weight for trials if he goes 197?

is Tanner Hall impressed? I'm with CMT - only 285 makes sense for Snyder. And no guarantee he finishes top 4 at 285. Possible? Sure.

Factoring Hunter in at 149 (and healthy), Miles Martin at 174, and Snyder in the lineup up top, I have it as a dead heat between PSU and tOSU. Man I hope Neville is recovering fast!

I really don't expect much from Hunter or Myles, and at 285 I'm not sure Snyder is enough of a boost in points to justify. Seems like a dumb move to me given the circumstances

Cool.
Snyder can sign autographs for seven minutes on Feb 5.
The 12 Buck fans in attendance can get some corndogs and drive home happy.

Martin went toe to toe with Nickal, so I completely disagree with not expecting much from him. He'll be very tough. I agree with you on Hunter and Snyder at HWT, though. Hunter is no Logan, by any means, and Snyder has less of an impact than he would have at 197.

To be conservative I assumed Hunter was healthy and placed, Bo did slightly better than Myles, and Snyder was at 197. Without these things being true, we were 10-15 points ahead of tOSU in my calculations, still putting them in striking distance if they get on a roll and we don't. Can't wait for the tournament!

Couple of interesting things to watch for at tOSU.....
-Will Martin handle his loses at 174 well, as they will happen. If he has loses and he and dad are sitting at the table will they say this is the wrong move and it poisons the well., or will they embrace the team concept that is ultimately at play here. Cant see the message board banter coming out, cause who would want to tell Snyder that what he is doing isnt a potential sacrifice and could jeopordize his olympic dream. But i could see the dinner table being trouble.

- Snyder to Hwt hurts Ok State and Iowa more than us. Its a weight we have 0 points and Ok State has a high finisher and Iowa has a guy working towards the podium. Snyder knocks them back a position in my mind.

- if snyder is trying to stay close to his Olympic weight it means he is outweighed by the big heavies by 30+ lbs. How does this affect him. If he is at 197, he is top 3 no doubt. But at Hwt i dont see that. maybe 3-6, which is more points than Tav is getting, but in the race with Ok State and Iowa this hurts them more than us.

- if snyder is training all semester, flying around etc, his school schedule seems to be not a large priority. Which I understand with chasing his dream. but does this somehow weigh him down?

Key is Hunter. If hunter is on the podium in some form, it will make saturday completely wild. 4-5 teams with a shot is good for fans and the sport. Darth Ryan, is to be applauded for this move.

Only thing for sure is that the goofers will not be making any shirts this season. Fail for the 3rd world but ok here.

I think Cutch's finish will be pretty key. He can finish above the guys from all 3 main competitors or finish behind all 3. If he could knock out Courts in say a 7/10 match, Courts might mail it in.

Wouldn't count on anyone mailing it in, but good point otherwise. At least on paper, the 184-lb class probably has the most potential variability of outcomes among the four main expected contenders. It could make for a really exciting weekend in March.

The Courts who "wrestled" against Miklus won't get that far. Which one goes to NYC?

IMO this is a huge gamble by Ryan. He still has question marks at 149 and 197. Plus his 133, 157, and 184 are more likely to under than overachieve at nationals.

But hats off to Ryan for trying. It sends a message to his team that he's all in.

Snyder is a beast. Glad i bought tickets to tOSU dual!

Will be tough to start 0-6 or 0-5 down due to Hwt and with Micah vs whatever we go with at 141. We have to win every single coin flip match: 125, 133, 184 and get bonus along the way in a few spots.

I'm merging this with the tOSU Lineup thread, since they are the same conversations.

I don't think Snyder really has any impact on the Penn State vs Ohio State dual, because Tavanello or even Haines would likely get a pin vs Johnson, that said any chance Nevills will be back this season?

Slim chance from everybody around here. Psu is a far more dangerous tourney team this year.
