Iowa discussions for 2024-25

My take from this match is, the only Iowa wrestlers that looked like aa's other than the o e year rentals was Kueter.

133 Ayla looked real bad at scrambling

141 block not a NQ

149 Parco is easy to root for and is going to be problems for most

157 teemer looked like a dog playing with his food

165 to many years in the Iowa room already, he's lucky Garvin faded

174. Lol

184 wrestling wise not that impressed, athleticism is what wins his matches

197 should be a finalist in March

Kueter if he wasn't going for football could he be a 197, he would wreck that weight over all most all.

I know it's early so this may just be a slow start but it was bery unimpressive showing by the origanil hwakeyes. The transfers made the Hawkeyes look good is what I'm saying

Stanford put on a great show
The wins they had super legit and they came close to getting another extremely big win. Iowa is not wrestling like the second best team in the country
Ayala really surprised me Nelson did not any takers on my bet that Levi bonuses ?

So your pick for Iowa's one finalist is 197. Thank goodness for Bob's money bags.

If Nelson Brands wasn't Terry's son he wouldn't be in the lineup. Terrible. I'd rather see Arnold at 174 and Ferrari at 184. Or Patrick Kennedy at 174 and Arnold at 184.
He is showing some rust after sitting out a year. He wasn't able to set up any good bites or scratches. I was impressed with his new ink though. That will pay dividends at tournament time.

Yes, I was impressed with Stanford as well, they are young and are looking promising, the staff they have is doing a hell if a job!

Ayala doesn’t seem to be at the top tier of 133. I’ll take Braeden Davis over him to win 8 of 10 matches between them.

So the newbies just haven't been beaten down by T&T yet?

Brands doesn't have much offense (putting it kindly), but he is tough to score on. Starroci beat brands only by a 2-1 decision in Jan 2023. I still maintain that a MD decision by Haines over Brands is unlikely, even with the 3-point TD.

I am most likely gonna get mauled for this but.

I don't really put Carter on a list that bonuses a ton on higher talent. He wins convincingly because he never gets in bad position and is never really close to giving up a take down. He pounds on the lesser guys.

He does have the offense but chooses not to go Mitchell on them. Haines is a little different he is more of an attacker than Carter is. Imo

Edit: wrestle stat is at my finger tips, I'm an idiot.

I have nothing to back this up but I think Haines does get the major or maybe just hope idk.

A Haines major requires 2 TD, 1 escape, 1 RT point and Brands not getting off bottom. Color me shocked if Levi doesn't score multiple TDs against Brands. I also don't see Brands getting off bottom unless an escape is given by Levi.

The 3 pt TD has changed the dynamics of a major.

It won't surprise me if Levi let's Brands up with 15 seconds to go just to score 1 more takedown.

I did not know wrestle stat had that type of data. I wonder what it says about me.
🤔

I’ll take a motivated Haines to hammer a playing out the string Brands, who many Iowa fans want to bench

Levi's history against the Lewans, Franeks, and Teemers of the world indicate he might get bonus, but is far more likely to beat Brands in a 1-takedown match or even win in OT.

They all tried to wrestle low-scoring, tactical matches against him. He complied, and beat every one of them at their own game. He did beat Franek 12-0 in the dual, and the next time around Franek changed tactics and it was a mere 5-0 win instead.

If Levi gets bonus on Brands, multiple takedowns is less likely than converting a takedown into an immediate turn like he did against Andonian and Paddy Gallagher.

I just like the match up and the moment. It’s PSU vs Iowa at home and it’s a legit hammer against a pretender. Levi’s finishes against KO last summer were so strong and clean I don’t see him giving Brands a chance to defend once he’s in on shot. Levi also has a significant mental game advantage. As things get dicey Brands doesn’t adjust he just tries not to loose to bad. Finally our track record is that our more senior guys carry their load when the lights are brightest. BB-Levi-Greg-AB all bonused late in the Nationals last year. Levi will rise to the occasion.
