this is a really great place for Trace.
Baltimore now has three QB's on their team: Lamar Jackson, RG3 and Trace. Looks to me like the Ravens are going to really embrace the RPO. Jackson and RG3 haven't made anyone forget Johnny Unitas' passing skills. Looks to me like the Ravens plan to exploit defenses designed to stop the pass by moving to a heavy running game. And that would be an RPO.
The problem with a heavy RPOn is that the NFL plays 16 tough games. 19/20 if you go to the super bowl. In college, you play less than half of that. Point being, it is easier to protect your QB with the hopes of going through an entire season. We've seen teams more toward the RPO but the QB doesn't run as much. Perhaps the best RPO QB has been the Seahawks' Wilson and his best rushing year was 2014 when he ran for 849 yards. Second best was 300 yards less or 586 yards. In seven years, he is averaging 521 yards.
What is the point? Trace will be the best passer on the team IMHO. He may be brought in during games where the passing game is more important than the run. Secondly, as teams adjust to stopping the Lamar Jackson run, Trace may be the perfect relief pitcher...a guy who can throw, but still run the RPO to perfection. Finally, in a heavy running system over 19 hard games, very likely Jackson will miss some games. RG3 has been injury prone since he got into the league. Trace will get a shot and he'll have to make that offense his own. But it will be an offense ideal for him, unlike the pocket passing game from most NFL teams.
