Football Trace McSorely joins PSU coaching staff

I agree that said Trace IMO is a great addition to the staff. It's time to start grooming some Franklin guys to be coaches. To me Loyalty is a really big thing.
Trace is still going to leave if a better opportunity comes along. Loyalty in these situations only benefits the HC not the loyal assistant that 9 times out of 10 will be forced to leave when a new coach comes in anyway. Let's not pretend Bradley, for example, didn't make a huge mistake by staying as long as he did--cost him a chance to be a HC.

QBs aren't perfect. While there is this McSorley love fest, let's not forget that he threw some really bad INTs in the Rose Bowl against USC and also threw a really bad pick to lose the game against Pitt all while having the best RB in the history of Penn State football and several NFL quality WRs.

It is so funny how people choose to remember great players once they are gone.
Amazing how a couple of good receivers improves the perception of QB quality.

Agreed.

And to win, you've got to take chances. For a QB, it is throwing into a tight window and letting your player make a play. Having too low of interceptions means you haven't been aggressive enough. Once, As my small company was being considered for acquisition, one of the board members asked how many outstanding lawsuits we had. We proudly said "zero". He laughed and said, "this is why this acquisition is good. You guys just weren't trying enough."

But having said all of that, McSorley made some bad decisions and bad throws. But everyone forgets that.
Bad decisions and bad throws usually leads to improvement through experience, something that Trace could share with the current QB room.

I don't think it's forgotten nearly as much as forgiven in comparison to the other QBs due to the fact he was the QB for our program's resurgence (last conference title, last victory over OSU) hence his leeway is larger than others.

Fair or not? I can't say. He won as much, if not more than the other Franklin era QBs even if his arm and stature wasn't NFL prototypical. He also had our 2 best skill players of the Franklin era on his team as far as NFL success goes (Barkley, Godwin). Put a Barkley/Godwin on a Clifford or Allar-led offense and see how much they improve.
