Traeger grills

they look wonderful, care to share what you bought and how you did them?
Anyway all of this Treager talk got me inspired to buy the front shelf for my 10 yr old Treager. they dont really make one for that model, but they do for the updated model (Texas 075) so I bought that.
Well, it fits okay, but it is made to be retro fitted on the newer model, which of course I dont have. No worries, I bought a couple of bolts, washers and some nuts. Got out the drill, and started drilling where it looked like it should go. I got the brackets in place, seem very sturdy, attached the shelf and there you go!! A place to put stuff while cooking.
So now triple inspired I go to cook some stuff, put the shelf up, go to raise the lid to place the meat on the grill, and the lid wont open!!! WTF!!! the shelf is too tight to the lit, so when you try to open the lit it hits the shelf!! SOB if I had put the brackets 1/4" lower, all would be good. Now what? I dont want to drill anymore new holes in the legs/sides, so I am hoping to get longer bolts, place some washers as spacers behind the bracket enough to move it away from the grill so I can open the lid!!!! (BTW everything is fine with the shelf down, so I can still use it but...) I know you all will be waiting for an up date so I will as soon as I can find the hardware. BTW Home Depot stainless steel selection of screws etc sucks.
More washers.

Whether you choose Traeger or not get some kind of low slow cooker. There are many that look exactly like a treager- employees that struck out on their own? I don't know but I love the set it and forget for long slow cooks.
As mentioned I have had one for 10+ yrs and only have one clog. Pellets got wet. So I am happy

The art of barbecue/slow cooking is not "set it and forget it." Go with one of these, complemented with a mid-level gas grill from your Home Depot...

More washers.
three did the trick, and maybe I could have only used 2!! Placed between the bracket and the grill, pushed the bracket away far enough and now the lid opens!! As my friend pointed out, I have to be careful how heavy of load I put on the shelf, dont want to tip the whole thing over!!

so when you are cooking a butt for like 12 hrs, and after you have it rubbed etc, what do you suggest one do during those 12 hrs?
That's why people make beer. Really, as long as you check it every half hour it should be fine. Especially once you learn how to set the draft and exhaust. And deal with weather changes.

and that's my point about a cooker like a traeger, on long slow cooks you set the thermostat to temp you want, and go to bed. The cooker keeps it where you want the temp, no need to stay up all night and check things.

Pork Belly Burnt ends on the Rec Tec...

So easy it should be illegal. Basically pork candy that melts in your mouth.

These were gone in about 5 mins. Got a new game day snack on the menu.

What's your process for making these? Do you cube them up first then smoke them? How do you season them?

Anyone with any thoughts on theses or any other wood pellets grills? The ads look interesting.
My daughter and S-I-L have had one for several years and it is great. Comes with easy to follow instructional cook book. Pretty much set and walk away. Meats I have tasted that they cooked on them have been fantastic.

Here you go...follow this and you will have some VERY HAPPY guests at your next BBQ. When I make these they are gone in about 10 mins. Usually make this as an appetizer.

I get the smoking thing - I have a little smoker and really like it. If I had to pick ONE patio cooking device it would always be a big griddle though.

I have a Green Mountain Grill Daniel Boone Smoker and it works great. It is along the lines of the Traeger but I purchased it instead because the steel was a heavier gauge. I have no complaints and would recommend you compare the two before making your decision.
Amen. I have the same smoker, and it makes brisket and pork butt and ribs idiot proof. Has it's own wifi. I can control it from my living room.
