Trailer for new Mr Rogers movie

Am I the only person on the planet that does not like Hanks.......

Great actor, loved him in Forrest Gump, Castaway.......but on talk shows and interviews the guy portrays himself as the acting police the decider of what is good acting or a good movie or someone that is a national hero for curing cancer. He might be a decent guy but to me he comes off as pompous.

With all that said I will watch as Fred Rogers is a national treasure.

For those that have never watched the below link to Mr. Rogers in front of Congress in his very early years "fighting" for PBS funding, it is truly a must watch (I and almost never say that). Watching this will for a brief instance actually restore your faith in humanity a little bit.

I think so. He’s a guy who I can barely think of an instance I didn’t love watching him in a movie. In that regard, he’s up there with Leo and Daniel Day Lewis. I couldn’t care less what they act like outside the movies, but even if I did care, I’ve never seen anything with Tom that doesn’t make me appreciate him even more.

he does come off as confident, but you don't get to become an A+ list Oscar winning actor being shy. He is obviously intelligent, he provides his opinion on things, I have never seen him be really rude to talk uncivilly about people. He talks better than 90% of any other actor (or professional athlete, rock star, etc..) then I have heard.

Y'know, replace "acting" with "college football" and your description of Tom Hanks is not too far off from what detractors of JVP used to say about him. All in one's perception, I suppose.

My son has seen the film and told me that if they don't change it people will be disappointed. Of course it's possible it will change. Don't forget the trailer is designed to get you to see the movie or at least what the producer thinks will get you to come see it.

You are not alone...to me he is Tom hanks in every movie.

I saw the trailer and I like Hanks in most films, however, his portrayal of Mr Rogers, from the trailer scenes, leaves me a little flat. Not really feeling it. Hollywood should have left well enough alone as the documentary was great and, IMO, will taint this film quite a bit. Kind of real thing vs imitation.

Also, IMO, one of Hanks best roles is as Paul Newman’s hitman in Road to Perdition, an all around great film

Well, he is one of the best in the world at pretending to be some other person. That's gotta be worth something.

I’m not buying Hanks as Mr. Rogers. It’s not working for me. It’s coming off to me as Mr. Rogers doing a great Tom Hanks impression.
I do love Tom Hanks though. Bosom Buddies is a somewhat forgotten TV gem. My favorite Hanks moment is actually from his appearance on Family Ties. I still use his line when he’s on the phone at the Keaton house when people are talking in code around me. “The eagle has landed, the fat man walks alone.”

Please take this opportunity to remember that Tom Hanks' best movie is Bachelor Party.

Maybe his best movie - but, his best performance - PERIODT - is David S. Pumpkins.

This is true for a lot of great actors with limited range:

- Jack Nicholson
- Brad Pitt
- Tom Hanks
- Mark Wahlberg
- Matt Damon
- Clint Eastwood
- Harrison Ford
- Morgan Freeman

Not that they're bad or anything, but they're not going to transform for a role like Day-Lewis, Bale, Norton, De Niro, Hoffman, etc.

I don't like him much, either, although he played the Gump and SPR parts well. Sully was OK, too. But he didn't seem right for some others, like that one with Paul Newman.

I saw the Mr. Rogers doc, which was very good, so this movie doesn't do much for me.

Mr. Rogers grew up about 10 mile outside of Johnstown near Seward / New Florence. They put in a hiking trail near there in his honor a few years back

Hanks is not a guy with limited range. He started out a comedy actor early in his career. Forrest Gump was some pretty amazing acting. SPR was a very serious role. Castaway, although i was not a huge fan of the move itself was a dramatic role that was extremely difficult to play as it was just him pretty much the whole move. And he can go on SNL and do live TV and ad lib with the best of them. Let's not downplay the guy, he is an elite actor.

Could he do a convincing English accent if asked? Probably not. But that’s okay.

I'm not feeling Hanks as Mister Rogers. The "Hello Neighbor" accent/affectation by Hanks is strange. It's like Richie Hebner doing a Mr. Rogers impersonation.

And on Sundays or against certain lefties, it's like bringing in Jose Pagan.
