Will be driving through Germany this summer for a couple weeks. Any suggestions for an APP like Waze that works in Germany?

Yeah. Waze.
Agree...need to make sure data is turned on for the EU though...can be confusing depending upon mobile provider.

maps.me is the app that the Wife and I use whenever we travel. It works offline so you don't use your data. You download your maps by region before you go or when you have WiFi connection so that you only have what you need, then you're off. Works REALLY well. have never had an issue with it.

I say - forget the maps, and just drive around - if you get lost and need directions, just stop and ask someone. It's a great way to meet people. See how well it turned out for Clark Griswold in St. Louis.
“Roll ‘em up”

I lived in Germany for three years when GPS navigation was "starting" with separate nav systems. But have gone back 4 times in last few years for work and each rental car I rented had built in navigation systems. So if you are renting a car, that may be simplest option. I have T-Mobile now which includes data overseas for things like Ways or other phone apps as well.

Waze worked for a week for me in the Italian Alps, Lombardy Region. On the way out, 2 hours out from the Milan Airport, it suddenly couldn't find the Milan Airport. I found the airport, but resolved to not rely so much on technology.

Paper maps for backup - always

Years ago I was in Germany using printouts from google maps. In Karlsruhe the directions to the hotel said turn left. I ended up lost out in the countryside. I pulled in to a gas station/food shop. No one spoke English and I am of the first generation of my family since we immigrated in 1832 who does not speak German. Finally, a man motioned to follow him. After about 15 minutes, we arrived at the intersection where we took
the left and he made a right. One block down we arrived the hotel. That was the only problem in two weeks.
