U Buffalo suspends all fraternities after hazing incident ...

UB student goes into cardiac arrest during supposed hazing incident at fraternity. Pretty disgusting to hear of all the people scattering away from him as he lay dying on the front lawn. At least someone had the sense to call 911. Thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

C’mon - they’re too young to know what to do when someone’s seriously injured o_O

But seriously, glad he got help and glad there were independent witnesses who had no motivation to clam up

Fraternities at the Univ. at Buffalo, like that of the rest of SUNY system, is by-and-large, garbage... many non-nationals, no real IFC structure, sketchy off-campus housing in bedraggled rental properties...

Granted - the system at PSU is a shadow of what it once was, and obviously hasn’t made our school immune from demons (to say the least) , but I would have serious reservations about the merits of what resembles “greek life” at the SUNY campuses i have been to...

I was in a frat at PSU, and I remember a few instances where we felt we had to have people sit up most of the night to keep an eye on an overly intoxicated brother or pledge. There is no way we would have failed to get them to a hospital had they been in trouble.

And I don't think a frat having "non-nationals" has any bearing at all- we've raised several generations with too high a percentage of entitled, irresponsible kids right here in this country, and those chickens are coming home to roost.

I would hope by “non-nationals” he means just non-associated frats with no national oversight. I don’t think he meant it the racist way.

Re-reading it, I think you are correct. But I think my diagnosis is still accurate.

SUNY schools typically have un/under-developed fraternities that have no national / not a chapter of any national fraternal organization... very few “locals” have a solid enough foundation (exception at PSU was Beta Sigma Beta, believe they were not a national, but - based on my observation, they were a pretty good house...

I knew quite a few guys from my HS who were in fraternities at SUNY schools and can tell you , based on first hand visits, they were simply drinking houses with guys living under the same roof trying to act out Animal House

Why not suspend all organizations?

Why is some sorority not involved punished for these clowns?

Maybe suspend the basketball team too.
