Uncatchable passes - is it ever called anymore?

Just a random thought. I think I saw one called in a college game several weeks ago but this has gotten out of hand with the defensive pass interference. A lot of those balls couldn't be touched by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar if he could jump like our boy Saquon but it is almost never called anymore. Why? I don't buy the excuse of trying to remove subjectivity from the calls - a good number of these are obvious.
