Uncle Lou out at ESPN (link)

I'm sure Holtz is a great guy but his schtick at ESPN became stale a long time ago. If they get rid of May ESPN could possibly put together a college football studio show worth watching.

IIRC prior to my ESPN embargo, Coach Holtz was one of the only (if not THE

only) voices of reason with regard to Joe when the crisis hit. I have great respect for that.

As I mentioned, I stopped watching ESPN shortly afterward, so it's entirely possible that his position evolved to be more in line with the network's chosen narrative.

+1

Mark May is one of the biggest assholes around.

Maybe Lee Corso will be next(hopefully). Too much to ask for to get rid of D Howard as well?

Dick Vitale should be right on his heels. Way over due.

There is certain people that hang around and it is nice even for old memory sake and I actually have always liked Lou Holtz even though he can't speak without spitting on the entire set.

Mark May, he is the worst that they have beside Desmond Howard. Mark May isn't playing an "instigator" roll. He seems like a legitimate dick.

That judge schtick that they did w/ Davis, May and him was moronic

The concept was dumb and the execution was worse. That arrogant ass May makes anything unwatchable.

I hope things work out well for Holtz.

as annoying as the ESPN-fabricated "Uncle Lou" persona was, I'll miss

his opinionated Sylvester-the-Cat-like rantings and arrows directed at Mark "zeedeeyooshbagg" May

He's muttered some crazy-ass stuff over the years - and some of it turned out to be correct...

Question is - who will ESPN roll out to replace him - Trev?

Re: thank god...

unfortunately that still leaves Mark May.
The whole Holtz/May schtick was really played out and frankly pretty stupid and not that interesting.
At least we won't have to hear about how ND could beat the Patriots and all the excuses when they lose.
Down side is they will probably put that idiot Desmond Howard in his place.

+1000.

Need to bring back Trev Alberts.

Lou needed to move on years ago. Its a shame Alberts isnt liked by anyone.

Loved Lou as an analyst. This will give Mark May a chance to prove to everyone that he sucks.

While it was time for him to go, I will miss him to some extent. I had the pleasure of meeting him several years ago, I think it was during the '04 season. He was on a nearby campus mid-week and just doing legwork for a game. He was in no hurry, and gave me a leisurely conversation on a lot of topics. He was very effusive in his praise to Penn State and Joe. Said he had a great respect for both, even though they had engaged in many heated battles on the field and in recruiting. He even went as far as to say not to give up on Joe, and that if anyone could recapture the glory, it was Joe (and he did in '05 and '08 at least). In the end, he actually found a football and signed it for me including a Penn State reference. Have had a good respect for Lou since that meeting. And while the last few years have been painful, it is still easier to listen to Lou than it is May or Desmond.

Lou is one of a dying breed ... well maybe not dying in the mortal sense, but dying in the media sense.

Think of Joe in his last several years and how he didn't always have the total command of his words - lots of stammering and not what we all wish we could remember him for. Well Lou was that way on network television. What the man said was usually spot on correct, but he didn't always sound great saying it.

He was an unabashed Domer Homer and I can't criticize that - I'm an unabashed PSU Homer.

He is a bridge to the past, a disciple of Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, Darrell Royal, Bear Bryant and Joe Paterno. That's not such a bad thing.

I had the good fortune to meet him on a golf course ... he was playing in a Pro-Am at St. Clair Country Club the day before the old Family House Golf Tournament here in Pittsburgh. I was walking out on the course with a co-worker when Lou comes strolling down the fairway to hit a second shot. Beer in one hand, sandwich in the other. My co-worker starts calling out to him to come over and sign an autograph. Old Lou strolls over with that signature ND ball cap on and gets in my buddy's face (they were both about 5 feet 7 inches tall) and simply says "didn't your mother ever tell you to not bother a dog when he's eating?" Then he tells us how he got the beer and sandwich (another story for a different post), finishes his snack and signs my friend's program.

Lou Holtz is a good man........old school, traditional, and loyal to a fault...........I wish him the best wherever he goes.

As for ESPN.........their company narratives and talking points (too many Syracuse and Pitt people there)...........not news but propaganda.......Will they ever change???

Chris Fowler I liked a lot and Todd Blackledge..........May too biased, Howard......have trouble understanding him when he talks.......Big 10 Network has not been that good either lately!

Guess I have to go to the game.........LOL
