Underated westerns

It stars Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Danny Glover and Kevin Costner. The supporting cast features Brian Dennehy, Rosanna Arquette, John Cleese, Jeff Goldblum and Linda Hunt.

This is kind of a western... it remains one of my Dad's favorite movies

Ranch hand Jack Burns (Kirk Douglas) feels out of place in the modern world. Jack deliberately gets into a bar room fight to be imprisoned alongside friend Paul (Michael Kane), arrested for helping illegal aliens. Jack tries to convince Paul to flee with him, but, as a family man, Paul has too much at stake. Jack escapes after a beating from a sadistic police deputy (George Kennedy) and heads for the hills. An extensive manhunt breaks out, led by sympathetic Sheriff Johnson (Walter Matthau).

Charles Bronson - Red Sun

Charles Bronson - White Buffalo, except don't look at the snow when the white buffalo is charging you can see the RR tracks.
Big Charles Bronson fan myself. My favorite movie of his, not a western though was Hard Times where Charles was a street fighter for hire during the Great Depression and was managed by James Coburn. I worked as an usher at the UA theaters during the mid 70's when it played and always managed to watch Chaney fight Big Jim in the factory cage whenever I could.
Now a really good Henry Fonda western with a poker twist was' A Big Hand for the Little Lady'

How about hombre great flick .The kid at the end of the movie was a white kid captured after his parents were killed.sadly by the time he was rescued his mind was gone.he was not treated well by the apaches Of course the life of the apaches was hard to say the least
Any western with John Wayne was great. Have fun and watch his really old westerns.

Lots of underrated highly rated westerns showing up.
I would offer as a truly underrated western “Man of the West”, starring Gary Cooper.

Speaking of Cooper, how about The Garden of Evil. Western Mexico ;), but a great flick that also starred Richard Widmark and Susan Hayward.

I just watched a very good underrated one on TV, Seraphin Falls, with Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson. Always love a Western staring a guy born in Ireland and one in England. For realism though they did have Wes Studi an actual Cherokee as the token Indian.
