United States release video of UFO sighting in 2004 (link)....

I've been following this one (2004 incident) pretty closely. From another article I read:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/16/us/politics/unidentified-flying-object-navy.html

Commander Fravor’s superiors did not investigate further and he went on with his career, deploying to the Persian Gulf to provide air support to ground troops during the Iraq war. But he does remember what he said that evening to a fellow pilot who asked him what he thought he had seen.

“I have no idea what I saw,” Commander Fravor replied to the pilot. “It had no plumes, wings or rotors and outran our F-18s.”

But, he added, “I want to fly one.”

By the way, I just read Vonnegut's A Man Without a Country and the lead quote is:

"There is no reason good can't triumph over evil, if only angel's will get organized along the lines of the mafia."

What say You "Almighty?" You never answered my questions about what You did to poor Job and the general concept of theodicy.

I’ve flown a few aircraft with a hud (head up display) though never an F-18, and this looks a little suspicious. The velocity vector (circular thing in the center of the screen w/ 3 small lines, never moves even slightly above or below the horizon. Indicating the pilot is perfectly level in his turn. Also, at the 37 second mark, it looks like he stops turning based on the clouds, but he is still in a turn based on the display.

Reminds me...I was hired, out of college, by a guy who was the lead Nav of the 100th bomb group at the end of WW2 on B17's. He told me that they got order for an odd mission, only 5 planes, one day to bomb an obscure target. Off they flew in formation until someone yelled that there were two enemy jets approaching from 6 o'clock (directly below). The two German plans flew 90 degrees vertically, strait up, for a mile, cutting right through the 5 B17s. They took out the one on the far right wing. Gunners didn't even have enough time to get their guns ready and aimed before the Germans were gone. Of course, this is the first time they saw a jet; Me 262s. The two jets were doing a wing over when several P51's appeared. The p-51, en mass, was relatively new and consider state-of-the-art and a big improvement over the typical german fighters. It was clear, at that point, that the five B17s were bait to draw out the new jets. Well, one of the P51's got a lucky shot in a smoked one of the jets. My boss described it to me like this "ever see and old movie were the tape broke and they had to splice in several moment in time and it jumps to the future?" Well, that is what happened. The Jets kicked in the afterburners and as the P51 could reach over 400 mph, the jets could hit 530 mph. At one point the P51's were on their tails, the next minute the P51s were in almost the same place, but the ME 262's were long gone. Top end speed was one thing, acceleration was a totally different story (2 to 1).

I was told the dropped their bombs and flew home. In the several hour flight back, even though seeing incredible history, not a word was spoken because they thought they were all dead men. Also, BTW, the gunners stood at the ready until they got to the channel.

FOR THE RECORD:

1) I seriously doubt any species (no matter their intelligence) is visiting us - that is, physically (via spaceships). Me, personally, I am 100% convinced of this.

Now, that doesn't mean that I don't think intelligent life exists. I am saying, though, that if they do, they got "bigger fish to fry" than us.

2) Perhaps you don't recall when I "officially" became a Humanist, circa 2007. I had my 3rd epiphany. That is, "a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something, or an intuitive grasp of reality through something (such as an event) usually simple and striking. It is also defined as 'an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure or a revealing scene or moment.'"

I couldn't move FORWARD because of the past. The past, albeit sincere in its matrix (of time and place) had little to contribute in the FORWARD or future movement. In fact, it stymied thought and growth - like trying to stick a square in a round hole.

It wasn't till I let go of the past (traditionalist) that I was able to understand the future (revolutionist). All great men have one thing in common: They are a product of their own matrix (of time and place). They can only hypothesize via the knowledge known to them at their TIME and PLACE. It "restricts" them.

Again, once I was able to figuratively let go of the past and sit down at my desk with a BLANK piece of paper and write down the things we KNOW (knowledge) today, it lead me DIRECTLY to Humanism.

FYI, I did this with never knowing that a Christopher Hitchens even existed in 2007. Of the four men of the Apocalypse, I knew only of Richard Dawkins, in 2007.

I admire the men that came before me. I often ponder, if they knew what I know today, what would they say? What writings would they share with the world. What insight could they imagine.

Then, I remember, they're men just like you and me. What one man can do, another man can do.

My place is in the future, not the past. I realized that back in 2007. You ask me about Gottfried Leibniz? Meh...a product of his times.

Allow me to reveal to you FORWARD thinking people:

I'm beginning to doubt your existence. In fact, I'm pretty sure you're a ballroom dancer from Florida.

Why would extraterrestrials be concerned with what we do when we don’t leave our own environment? They aren’t threatened so why would they even bother with us other than as a quick stop. We clearly don’t have resources they need otherwise they would attack and seize.... we are just another rock out there!

you never saw this episode of Twilight Zone?

ET's land in the US and there is a long interaction. they have this book that is determined to be named "To Serve Man". we are just about to give them the keys to society, thinking they want to help us, when a scientist determines (too late) that it is a cookbook.

We study ants don't we? Curiosity. An opportunity to study a primitive life form.

So... you are saying you are a "great man"?

If they are advanced - advanced enough to travel (or send a probe) to our solar system - then they have other ways to observe or study us so that they don't need to travel (or send a probe).

You're thinking like an African Ape. You need to think like an Extraterrestrial.

He used the word "theodicy" in a post - this is one reason why I love this board.

the fact that Me-262's did not have afterburner(s) makes this story even more-unbelievable ;)

Yeah...was trying to think of a good way to note the rapid acceleration. I really enjoyed "A Higher Calling" which had a lot to do with the ME 262. They could really accelerate but that increased the chance of a blowout. (which was often fatal)

We are so arrogant for thinking we are the only ones out there. These so called aliens probably have the same things going on when we fly into space or near their planets. Their people are probably wondering if there is another life form out there. I hope they are smart enough not to spend billions on a program to fig it out.
