Updated roster observations

Gaining weight or muscle mass can be exceedingly difficult for a kid who is still growing. The metabolism won't allow it. Some kids stop at 12 and others continue to grow until they're 20. However, once they stop, weight can usually be added quickly. However, not everyone can add weight no matter what efforts they make. We've seen guys come in at 255 for OL and graduate 4 years later at 265 having never been able to add enough weight to play.

I remember the Eagles picking up all-pro guard Ron Solt from the Colts in the late 80's when drug testing for steroids was just beginning. Solt played at about 285 - 290 for the Colts and was considered a steal for the Eagles. When he arrived at the Eagles he was about 265 and steadily dropped weight during practice and the season until he was well under 250. He could not hold weight without the steroids. Some guys, even big ones, just cannot maintain.
That’s funny because I continue to gain weight to this day. It’s not that hard.

DE Terrell Suggs, 2003

Terrell Suggs is the perfect reason why teams don’t solely rely on the NFL Combine. One of the most disappointing NFL Combine performances could have cost Baltimore if they didn’t watch the film. Suggs put up great numbers at Arizona State. However, his Combine performance left many teams uncertain about his future.

He ran a 4.84-second 40-yard dash, and his 18 reps on the bench press didn’t excite scouts. Fortunately, Baltimore still took him in the first round, and it’s safe to say that was a smart move on their part.

HIS ARIZONA STATE CAREER STATS:
He finished his career with 163 tackles, including a school, career-record 65.5 tackles for losses, and 44 quarterback sacks, 14 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and nine passes deflected.
Life is full of exceptions but you can’t make decisions hoping everyone is an exception

On the flip side there was "Mike Mamula" who put up unbelievable numbers at the NFL combine. He was so impressive, the Eagles traded up to pick #12 in rd 1 to get him. However, he never lived or played up to those numbers.

That is stale info and really not that accurate.

Of the 8 eagles 1st round DE picks the last 45 years Mamula had the most sacks per season( career average) and most tackles per season career average. Fact

Mamula had better career numbers than Brandon graham. Graham played a lot longer and had a better career.

If you want to talk about busts the start with jon Harris

Always has to shoot from the hip since he can't STFU about anything. Mamula played 6 years in the NFL; Brandon Graham has played "15 Years" and was the hero of SB 52 when he strip sacked Tom Brady to seal the victory. Just to be a totally asshole, you always have to interject bullshit comments to make yourself sound like you know more than anyone else, when, in fact, you don't know shit!!!

Graham is twice the player as Mamula was. If Mamula was as good as you claim, why didn't he stick around more than six years??? The Eagles certainly considered him not worthy of the 12th overall pick.

Mamula averaged the most sacks pr season and tackles per season of all eagles 1st round DEs the last 45 yrs.

Why didn't you list the eagles 1st rd DEs who lasted two seasons? Shooting from the hip

Getting back on track, this might be Franklins most talented roster. Must solve WR issues but will be interesting to see how the young WRs do this spring. Need depth on the DL but some talent on defense again.

The Eagles said the main reason they "cut Mamula at the age of 27" was that "he did not live up to the hype as the 7th overall pick in the draft. But, of course, you know more than the Eagles!

Whatever you tout about Mamula, the Eagles disagree and let him go.

I would take one Brandon Graham over a half dozen Mike Mamula's and their individual careers back up that characterization. Mamula 6 years and gone; Braham 15 years and counting. Both with the same NFL team.

Again, you know more about football players than the Philadelphia Eagles! If so, why are you sitting on your ass typing arrogant posts day in and day out.

On paper the WR recruiting doesn't seem to be as bad as the recent performance on the field. The law of averages would seem to favor at least one young WR breaking out as a playmaker......

Lots of young dlinemen developing at both DE and DT. I believe that if Ford can recover and get back to playing like he was in 2024 before he got hurt and team with Durant as the starting DT's, that the DL has a great chance to be very good in 2025. The young players need to continue to develop between now and August, but the DL won't be as experienced as in 2025 where there were 4 DT's that had 2+ years of extensive playing time. And the DE position was also loaded in 2024, but that unit should also develop during the season and could surprise positively by the end of the B10 season.
