PSU starts tomorrow with a 23.5 point lead!

Finals - win and get 4 placement points plus bonus
Penn State has 5 wrestlers in the finals. PSU will be favored by seeding in 4 of 5 finals matches
Michigan has 2 wrestlers in the finals. Michigan is favored in 2 or 2 finals matches.

125:
#1 Suriano, MICH vs #3 Pat Glory

133:
#1 RBY vs #2 Daton Fix

141:
#1 Nick Lee vs #15 Kizhan Clarke, UNC

174:
#1 CStar vs #2 Lewis, VT

184:
#1 Amine, Mich vs #2 Brooks, Penn State

197:
#1 Max Dean vs #6 Warner, Iowa

If PSU wins 4 finals matches and Michigan wins 2, PSU will gain 8 more points on Michigan

Consolations:
Penn State has 1 wrestle in consolation semi-finals (Kerk). He is wrestling Mason Parris. Kerk has beat Parris twice this year. If Kerk wins, he will get 3 placement points + 0.5 advancement + bonus and Parris will be limited to only 1 placement point + bonus in the 5th place match. Go Kerk and get to 3rd. If we wins 3rd, that is another placement point.

Michigan has 3 other wrestlers in consolation semi-finals. Same has Kerk above, max scoring is 4.5 + bonus points to win both matches and place 3rd.

Michigan's max score in consolations is 34 more points. All 4 wrestlers win both matches by pin.

157: #8 WIll Lewan vs #1 David Carr
165: #6 Amine vs #4 Dean Hamiti, WIS
174: #3 Massa vs #5 Kemerer, Iowa (one last time to cheer for Mikey Kemerer!
285: Kerk vs Parris. Go Kerk!!!

If Kerk places 3rd, PSU scores 4.5 more points.
Say Michigan wins 2 of the remaining 3 and places 3rd with 4 bonus points + a 5th place finish, Michigan will add 14 points.

Penn State 128.5
Michigan 107.5

If we only have 2 champions:
Penn State 120.5
Michigan 107.5

Pretty sure I read somewhere that our PSU guys were 40-4 in the semifinals since 2011. Add a 5-1 session to that and now Cael's guys are 45-5 in the Semis. That's a 90% winning percentage in the NCAA Semi-Finals. That is truly insane. Wearing my favorite t-shirt all weekend: "National Champs 2011 . . . "It has begun." Indeed.

And I believe only one of those 5 losses was by a wrestler with a higher seed than his opponent! Kerk put up a nice fight vs. Zeus.

If I calculated correctly the max for UM without any bonus points is 30 pts (125 & 184 can get 6, backside guys can get 4 1/2), while our max is 34 1/2 pts. Our guys need to take care of their own business; going to be a f-n day 3!

Who has the time to put together a thread to quote and expose all the chicken littles/ eeyores? OMG Michigan has so many in the blood round, they are wrestling above seed. We are screwed! Idiots ruined good threads.

Without bonus, Michigan can only gain 4 points each at 125 and 184. Their max gain without bonus is therefore 26 points.

Our max gain without bonus is 4 points x 5 finalists = 20 plus 4.5 from Kerk = 24.5.

Curious to see where Iowa would have ended up if Spencer had wrestled and got his championship. Would they even make it to 2nd? Pretty sure everyone had assumed they'd walk away with the title if he was in the lineup.

If you assume Lee is sitting in the finals with two TFs and two majors, they’d replace Ayala’s 0.5 points with 21 points and would be in 3rd place, two points behind Michigan and capable of taking second depending how it plays out this morning and would play out tonight.

For Michigan, the consi semifinals are critical. Each loss there is 5.5 points lost forever. Lose two of those and their max point total drops to 119.5. Loss of bonus in other bouts takes care of the rest. Even if PSU collapses completely and loses out, which is extremely unlikely, Michigan is in a nearly impossible hole from which to recover.

Put another way, MI can win all 10 remaining matches without bonus and only be 3.5 points higher than PSU is right now. All PSU needs to do in that case is win one of their championship bouts. Period.

Bonus at this stage is relatively uncommon. The wrestlers are tired, banged up, and in most cases nearly equal to their opponent.

Amine headgear spike?
Never saw a piece of headgear slide off the mat so fast. He kind of did it in a respectful way with a sidearm delivery, but, the velocity was very high. I kinda wondered if they would ding him for it. Perhaps a ref out there could explain the elements that go into judging when a point is to be deducted.

If the kid from Oregon State gets dinged to lose the PAC12 ‘ship then Amine SHOULD have been dinged, but you’re right, now they’ll suddenly take trajectory of the headgear into account. We’ve gotten a couple breaks, Michigan and Iowa have gotten all the breaks. Unfortunately for the Hawks, their breaks were all bad

Nope. Because RBY and Nick Lee missed a bonus point. It’s like Michigan wins a conference tourney and some people got terrified. Michigan isn’t a bad team, but our boys are just better, by a considerable margin.
Had two Michigan guys sitting behind us last night among the PSU faithful. They started the night loud and proud. As the nails got driven into the Michigan coffin, they got progressively louder and irrational. PSU fans almost completely ignored them until the younger one seemed to melt down. By the end of the evening, they actually rooted for Kirk in his excellent effort against Gable. I heard one say after the match that Gable “never gave Mason that kind of respect”.

Sprinkle in a healthy Eierman and a semi-healthy Kemerer (January version), and Iowa would have been right there. Huge points lost from Eierman and Lee. And even w/ Kem’s shoulder hanging by a thread, he and Marinelli are still in position to make points within striking distance of expectations. That Hawkeye team was just beaten into the ground physically, and the wheels came off.

I still want Yonger Bastida’s team point restored in the ISU-Iowa dual after his victory over Warner. Perhaps one of the best headgear spikes ever.

Start docking team points for the vulgarities and and other nonsense coming out of the coaches’ corners, and I’ll start taking headgear spiking as a threat to good sportsmanship seriously. Until then, spike away. Far worse things are going unpunished.

We beat Michigan in a straight up dual meet 26-6!! We are much better that UM by A WIDE MARGIN!!!!!

Gable didn't give Kerk that kind of respect either. Kerk earned it. Parris, not so much.
