One of the hottest takes I have, I think the Heil robbery mentally broke Jimmy. He was struggling that year but seemingly was finally on a roll, starting with a comeback win at Carver against Carton and then he had Heil stacked (or under the new rules, at least they were takedowns since Heil lets go) but it wasn't called.
Then suddenly, he gets pinned 3 times at Big Tens. He did finish pretty strong (going R12 and scoring 4.5 points was a solid finishg and he also nearly majored Luke Pletcher) but would have loved to see him podium one more time.
Let's just say I need more convincing they have figured the recruiting game out. Jesuroga, Kueter and Arnold are the 3 guys in the fold I would consider blue chips. Two are in state and one of those is shared with football. They need another 4 blue chips minimum between the 24 and 25 classes and I don't see anyone else in Iowa at that level. They have a lot of work to do.
No, no, no! Iowa does things "The Iowa Way" and here I am screaming, please continue on! Don't tell them they may be off center, someday they may stop to listen. Allow the march to continue. Iowa busting ass trying to scrape together enough points to finish 3rd or 4th is pleasing to me.
Iowa still hasn't figured out "work smarter, not harder". Not sure they ever will with the current leadership.
I think recruiting has become less important. Iowa will be able to attract big name transfers on their name alone. They have a great tradition and fan support. They won’t become irrelevant, even with a subpar year or two of recruiting.

As I recall (and my memory isn't perfect) Clark & Gulibon wrestled twice in the all-star matches after HS graduation, and Gulibon won both times. The first time it wasn't too close, but the 2nd one (Iowa all-stars vs US) it was pretty close. And Gulibon did get that memorable win over Clark at Rec Hall with the late match TD that brought down the house! Your post, CT, brought back some memories.

Memory isn't bad, but the late TD brought the BJC roof down. Iowa, which isn't known for wrestling in State College, hasn't wrestled in Rec Hall since January 2011.
He is WAY ahead of schedule if only the first time wrestling Carter was brutal.

Ugly first round of finals for those with PSU or potential PSU ties as Perry, Kasak and Neves lose and the latter seems to get injured.
Plus McCort duo got pounded, Bassett lost 6-1 to Lilledahl and Forrest 12-2 to Jesuroga.
