Not a surprise. Unranked now. Oregon on deck with UCLA to close. 3 game skid isn't out of the question.

Did you watch the game last night? Sieve is not even an accurate word for their Defense.
Wouldn’t be shocked to see the team that is drafting #1 and looking to get Caleb fire their coach with the plan to hire Lincoln. Caleb is really talking some crazy stuff when it comes to being drafted or staying in college. Lincoln moving to that team might make that transition a bit smoother when it comes to Caleb.
Oh…and then James to USC. 🤣

I believe that they will figure out fast that they have to focus on Defense more to contend regularly in the BIG...
Alex Grinch had to go. If Lincoln didn't fire him it would have been his head. Ask Al Golden what happens when loyalty to a DC trumps doing the right thing.

At some point, he needs to take the hit for his consistently shitty defenses no matter where he coaches. His defense at Oklahoma were beyond shitty.
Only lasted one year at Ohio State and his successor was an improvement. Personally, I don't see guys who only last one year at Ohio State being successes at other places. Normally it means that the head coach is not happy with the performance of the assistant coach.
Any team that would make concessions to a kid coming out of college is certifiably crazy. When you look at all the first round qbs that have faded into oblivion, it sure would be a huge risk. How has it worked out for USC so far?
Many believed he was a home run hire at USC and would quickly dominate. He's actually lost more games there than he ever did in Oklahoma.
If he doesn't try to leave before then. It seemed like he left Oklahoma when he did because he was afraid of going to the SEC, where his offenses alone wouldn't likely be enough to carry the day. The Big Ten won't be much better for him unless the defense does a fast turnaround. He better hire well.
how is he going to easily hire a top dc when he has this history of horrible defenses? he's not going to have an easy time selling that
My educated guess is that he was not asked to stay. Ryan Day hired Jeff hafley who was a major upgrade over Grinch.

The new head coach was on the staff of urban and had the opportunity to observe grinch. He kept some of the other coaches and not others. I believe he was not happy with the work of Grinch whose defenses were not that great. For instance, Day kept Brian Hartline on the staff.

Again, your statement didn't make sense. Urban hired him. Not Day. He wasn't brought in by a coach and ran off after a year. There was a coaching change. This isn't a difficult concept. Who even says Grinch wanted to work for Day? You were wrong. Own it.
I expect them to offer Manny Diaz a huge package to take the job. Surprised Diaz stuck with us for this season. No way he is back in 2024. The LA lights are too bright to pass up. I hope Franklin has his list ready.
I would be surprised if Diaz left for another DC job. especially working for a guy who has a history of horrible defenses. he will probably become a head coach somewhere. agree this is probably his last year at psu; one more maximum, unless for some reason Franklin leaves and he is hired to replace him
He left the top dog in a mediocre conference. The big 12 was Oklahoma and nobody else during his tenure there.
Won't happen. He has created a culture of offense wherever he goes. These disciples of Leach/Mumme are nothing but play callers. They are not coaches. They have merely taken the basketball on grass concept and rode it with better athletes

Day kept offensive coordinator, Kevin Wilson, defensive line coach Larry Johnson, Running Backs coach Tony Alford as well Brian Hartline. He also kept strength coach Mickey Mariotti who is given large responsibilities at Ohio State. Not like he was totally cleaning house.
As far as Grinch not wanting to work for Day that is possible but unlikely. It is a sideways step down from the OSU defense to the typically bad Oklahoma defenses under Riley.

If you don't like Grinch's performance at Ohio State that's fine but Day wasn't the guy he signed up to work for. Many times guys leave. LJ isn't going anywhere at his age. Hartline wasn't looking to move on then. Wilson couldn't go anywhere at that point as he was still in "fix your image" mode. Grinch was the most mobile and beng offered the DC position at Oklahoma is pretty good truthfully.
I have cousins who live in Seattle and went to UW. Got a purple Dogs hat from a visit there. Can't wait to tailgate on a boat and see PSU there in 2026.

Then I realized that I SHOULD be rooting FOR USC to clear a path for us to Playoff.....which was really tough to do.
They've got the best coaching and players that $ can buy.

I can't stand U$C either and was hard pressed to cheer for them vs uDub. I never do. I am still pissed over that Rose Bowl after the 2016 season that we blew. Their weasel kicker running right at the PSU section after that kick. Never forget. We better kick their entitled a$$ next season.
