USC vs San Jose State Game Thread.

San Jose looking like a real team so far, unlike Navy.
Yeah, but maybe ND is really that good. Hard to say, though, after just one game. The problem with the Service academies is that they're undersized especially on the lines and just don't have the depth to stay with a really good team like ND

Navy has declined in recent seasons. Right now, they are behind Air Force and Army.

No freaking way that usc team is better than psu

I think we should be ranked 5th which would put us ahead of them but they have one of the best QBs in the country and it's difficult to say their offense won't be better than ours.

SJSU has a 6th year QB that threw for over 3000 yards last year. It wasn't going to be a 35-10 type game.

I'm not a fan of Riley but they did what they were supposed to yesterday. Won easily and played a ton of guys.

They are behind right now the Coast Guard Acadamy and the Merchant Marine Academy. They will rebound. Army was in the same position 20 years ago.

Once again, USC has a hideous defense. They are not even a top 10 team, in reality.

Find me a Lincoln Riley coached team in his HC history that had any defense.

Same issue has plagued OSU under Day. You can't score in 2-3 minutes or less constantly and have a good defense. Think back to our '94 team. Same thing.

They didn't give up 28 to San Jose State because they scored fast

Perhaps not. Compare it to Bama defenses during the Saban Era. When they were power run, play action based they had dominant defenses. When they changed over to high powered passing based offenses, their defenses got statistically worse. Maybe it was rule changes that favored offenses.

When you score 50+ you're not worried about giving up 28.
The question is: will they score high 30s against the quality teams in conference, Utah, Oregon & Washington? And, can their defense hold those same teams in the twentys? Those are their challenges.

Oh agreed...that's always the concern but we're making too much out of 28 points. USC played a ton of people in game one as they should have. I don't think USC is going to have a great defense but, like at OU, their plan is to outscore teams. It worked often at OU. Might work this year. Will be interesting when they join the Big Ten.

And yeah they'll probably score 30+ with that offense. I think the only regular season game they didn't last year was Oregon State and they actually played D that day.
