Utah- USC

Nonsense. Alabama and UGA almost never play in the regular season and it has worked out fine and dandy for them and the SEC, significantly better than if they played annually.

The name of the game is minimizing losses above all else. The sec gets it, the big ten doesn’t.
The SEC has Georgia/Florida/Tennessee on one side and Alabama/LSU/A&M on the other side....not even including Auburn. Yes, those schools aren't always elite but neither has Penn State or Michigan been elite consistently.

To maximize TV contact you need marquee matchups. It would be shocking if we don't play at least two of Michigan, Ohio State and USC a year. It would also be disappointing with the playoff expanding.

True…imagine if PSU was in the Big West and was sitting at 12-0, with Michigan at 12-0 and OSU at 11-1…that would be great for the conference, but not so great for OSU.

Without playing Michigan or Ohio State and replacing them with Big Ten west teams where do you think we'd be ranked? 6th?

Without a ranked win and a SOS in the 60s? No chance
Absolutely, we’re ranked #8 with two losses….we’d be top 4 with an undefeated record. And we’d get a shot at the Big title and winning that would lock us in for sure. The first step to winning any championship is you have to get there. Could be why the SEC has won so many NC’s, they always have one or two teams get the opportunity.

We're ranked 8th because our SOS skyrocketed because of the quality losses
We'd have likely been behind USC and probably Ohio State--although Ohio State wouldn't have us as a win so that gets tricky
The SEC plays big games within their division--are you pretending the SEC teams don't have ranked wins?

Clemson, FSU and Oklahoma all say hello….going 12-0 trumps all the other stuff.

I’ll beat everyone else to it…good thing we’re not going to the Cotton Bowl, we’d be in big trouble against Tulane…they look like world beaters against UCF.

2015 Iowa beat top 15 Northwestern--they had a ranked win
And Wisconsin may have been ranked...I don't remember if they finished ranked or not.

I don't know if it's paralysis by analysis or if you are actually trolling, but an undefeated Penn State is, at worst, ranked #4 coming into today's ccgs in the hypothetical world in which 1) they play in the Big 10 West 2) somehow they have no ranked wins.

To argue otherwise is, well, it's something.

If you take Ohio State and Michigan off of our schedule and replace them with 2 Big Ten West teams then what's our SOS? Do you think it's above 60?
Why doesn't every team just form a conference with 9 crappy teams? Well, money, but also it's pointless.
We could be 12-0 with that kind of schedule and wouldn't have any respect at all.

I have no idea what our SOS would be.

I'm not saying we would be a shoe in for the playoff.

I'm pointing out that we were 10th prior to week 7. That's the week we got beat by Michigan. TCU was 13th that week. It's likely we would have been 3rd ahead of them as they didn't have a marquee win that would have vaulted them up. USC was 7th, lost to Utah that week, had a bye and was back at 10th by week 9 so we would have been ahead of them.
