He has a lot of awards for his broadcasts. I don't know what you consider good.
Verne is up there with Al Michaels, Keith Jackson, Pat Summerall.
He and Danielson are good together, plus Danielson was a big defender of Joe.

Johnson is excellent for bball and a good football announcer.
People either love or hate his style of going NUTS announcing a game. IMO he goes NUTS too often. I have a tendency to turn down the volume on the games he does so he doesn't scare the dog when he goes NUTS.
I have never seen a fan base spend more time talking about this subject while at the same time HATING on everyone. People should post who exactly they like just to keep it real. From Beth to Brock to Matt, the list seems endless. Personally our group is discussing the actual game so much that the game play is more background noise than hanging on every word.

It's less pronounced in football IMHO. His soccer is bloody awful. But there is no one better in basketball.
I agree with you broadly, I think Joe Buck is the worst national announcer there is for the reason you cite (especially for baseball).
mowins would have been perfect. She could have summarized the sanctions once per quarter with an accompanying graphic. Lost opportunity.
At least it's not Joe Buck. He could make a Roman Orgy seem boring.
I think it's just his last SEC Championship game. Pretty sure he's calling the Army-Navy game next week. Probably calling whichever bowl game is on CBS. The Sun Bowl or whatever, if that's still a thing.
I know that. I was just saying Verne is no bumpkin. He's had a long, distinguished career doing multiple sports.
I've always enjoyed Verne and the duo of Verne and Gary Danielson has been the best in the business. Of course, Verne may not be as good today as he was in his prime, but he's a play by play guy not the color commentator. We can see whether the pass was completed or not, etc. so he's mostly there to fill time between commentary by the color guy.
