who was his opponent in last year's NJ State 120 State Final. Nick's team, Bergen Catholic, was facing Delbarton (Agaisse's team) last night in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Non-Public A Sectional final.

Bergen Catholic will face St. Augustine on Sunday at 2, as it attempts to win its 5th straight Non-Public A State Championship.

You can watch the Suriano - Agaisse match from Friday night at THIS LINK.

Awesome! So does he slide right in and start for us at 125 as a true freshman next year?

There won't be another 125 in the room that will beat him but not sure what the plans are for him.

The plan is for him to move into the starting lineup at 125. It's dependent upon him winning the spot, but the expectations are pretty strong that he'll do so.

My question is why was Suriano bypassed for the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic?

Watching the video, 2 things to be really encouraged by -- of a top recruit who we all knew was really good anyway:

1. Switch hitter in neutral -- comfortable leading with either foot. A lot of guys strongly prefer leading with the same foot, aren't real comfortable when they have to go with the other stance.

2. His double at 3:30. Agaisse relaxed a little, sat up to look at the ref -- and Suriano jumped at his head, looking for a possible fall at the edge. Wasn't a dirty move at all, they were still in bounds. Love the killer instinct.

Had to laugh at Agaisse's reaction to that -- get chippy, push and shove, and then go to the corner for injury time.

Very nice. I know he won't be ranked that highly as a true freshman. But TALENTWISE, where does he rank among the returning 125 pounders?

Top 10? Top 5?

What do people think?

Mueller has shown he can go with the likes of McGhee, Cruz, and Bresser in freestyle. Maybe he doesn't have the same success in folk, but Suriano has beaten Mueller every time they have wrestled. I have big expectations for Suriano

Yup. I have no concerns with Nick hitting the ground running.

Suriano will be ranked highly after a few weeks. Returning will be NATO, Gilman, Dance. No reason he can't come in and be right at the top of that next tier. We are talking about a 4 Time Undefeated NJ champ that will not take a backseat to many from the start. He's that kind of good. By March, he could challenge for the title. Heck, Nico and NATO did so from the very jump and Nick is certainly physically imposing enough IMO.

Anyone who is as good a mat wrestler as Nick is will transition well.

Oh, and we signed Mark Hall and Manville, too. It's good to be a PSU wrestling fan. :)

At this point in their HS careers: I think he'd be top 5 with Tomasello, Micic, Gilman, and Dance. Assuming all of those guys stay at 125 next year, which is hardly a given.

But of course they're not in HS any more, and everybody else has had more college development. The question will be how quickly he can catch up with the rest of the field. I'm not concerned at all. I would never predict national finals as a true freshman like Nico did, just because of how hard that is. I'll just predict that we'll be happy with his first year.

Depending on his off season schedule I could see several ranking services have him in the 15-18 range to start the season.

Looking at who is coming back and the belief I have that he will be a workout warrior to ready himself for the start of the season I wouldn't laugh at the first threads post nationals that pencil him in as a round of 12 guy for 16-17.
