Vintage Cael

How about Morgan vs Jacob Warner? Oooofff
This young lady interpreted that thought. In this, her feet are Morgan, and the rest of her body is Warner.

After a few right crosses and a phony injury timeout (right Hawk fans), this dude is done. Cutting the dude after a hard mat return = Shane Sparks Christmas present.

Gable sounds a little peeved on this commentary as Cael hammers this guy

Not sure I’ve seen Cael come out like that before. He wanted to destroy Fulsaas. Breaking news - Cael does not like the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Meh, just one of 159. More interesting to me, as E-J alludes, is the want/desire to score points with his unparalleled movement.

When he started coaching, he brought that same attitude, and after three years of honing/refining that approach at ISU, brought that mindset to PSU. It forever changed the college wrestling landscape, now many coaches push their wrestlers to score more.

My stats may be off a little, but a quick review shows 162 total bonus point wins at the NCAA Championships in 2010 and 2011, increasing to 191 (2016), 218 (2017), 203 (2018), and 191 (2021). Sorry, I don't have 2019. On average, that's over a 20% increase in a short period of time. The homer in me is grateful for the accomplishments at my Alma Mater, but overall the wrestler nationwide is more fun to watch.

Another important correlation with at least a portion of those bonus-point win stats is the change in scoring for near falls. It’s a lot easier to rack up big points nowadays, even off cheap tilts.

I’d be curious to see a comparison of wins by fall, which would be influenced far less by the scoring rules change.

Good point. I considered that, and here's my thoughts...
The cheap tilts were always there, the real change was 4-points-in-4-seconds vs 3-points-in-5-seconds. This change happened for the 2015-16 season. The year of the change Majors went down by nine, while Tech Fall's went up 13. Meaningless really, since the numbers bounce around, and doing f- or T- tests for significance on so few years of data would be fruitless. That's why I went the Total Bonus Point bouts route.

I'll have to double-check my earlier years Falls data to make sure forfeits and defaults were removed, but here's what I have at this moment (again, Falls ONLY);

2010 - 59
2011 - 56
2012 - 81
2013 - 75
2014 - 79
2015 - 55
2016 - 72
2017 - 69
2018 - 70
2021 - 56
