Move to the 1:05:40 Mark....

At the 1:06:40 Mark Ira Lubert is granted a contract for ANOTHER $82,000+ per year from PSU Treasury (with annual escalators)
…….
At $20 per square foot...… although….
Right now, today, you can lease office space all over town - Atherton Street, Martin Street, College Avenue, etc - for just about $12 per square foot. (https://officespace.oodle.com/state-college-pa/)

All completed in - you can watch it for yourself - less than 5 seconds with no discussion of any kind.

You can also - at the 1:07:00 mark - see the $6.5 Billion annual budget passed in less than 10 seconds - with no discussion of any kind.

TRANSPARENCY!!!!!
SUNSHINE LAWS!!!!!
RESPONSIBLE STEWARDSHIP!!!!

LOL

The entire "Finance" part of the BOT meeting was less than 4 minutes (involving not only the Annual Budget of $6.5 Billion, but also numerous multi-million dollar Capital Projects).
There was not ONE WORD of discussion about any of them.

SMFH

And no one cares.

The entirety of the "Governance of the University" part of the meeting (and there are only 5 of these public meetings held throughout the entire year) was less than 20 minutes - from about the 0:57 minute mark to the 1:15 mark (the rest being Pep Rally and Bullsh&t….. but you can watch for yourself)

If you pay attention - you also get a glimpse at David Han's "work" to maximize Board disfunction..... that's gonna' be fun :)

COUPLE OTHER "TIDBITS":

At the 1:10 Mark you can avail yourself of a glimpse of Penn State BOT's "Romeo and Juliet".

At about the 1:11 Mark you can hear from Abe Harpster - - - - PSU BOT Committee Chair, and the (maybe) functionally illiterate owner of a sub-room temperature IQ. "It takes a village" :)

Anybody know why our budget is so much smaller than Michigan's? They have less students, less buildings and physical plant, yet their budget is 9B. Seems curious.

Is their medical center on their budget?

Trip to Ibiza on the schedule for next spring.

Yes.... and it is significantly larger than HMC (FWIW).

FWIW: Here is a breakdown of UMich budget from last year.

http://obp.umich.edu/wp-content/uploads/pubdata/budget/greybooksummary_fy18_allcamp.pdf

Without even looking at the numbers - just looking at the format and the detail of breakdowns...... and compare that to PSUs.

That will tell you more than what you can learn from all the numbers - and it don’t even take no hard ciphering :)
Wow! Looks like the hospital accounts for most of the difference. And we certainly lack the detail they have.

Yep.
The financial documents that PSU uses in their public reports is a joke. When an organization works as hard as they do to muck up the water, you know there is a lot of motivation to hide what they are doing..... whether it be a University, a Madoff Scheme, or a ENRON.

Surprised, as many medical centers have been broken off as separate financial enterprises from their University, while still remaining related. My understanding is that it provides the med center with more flexibility in business deals, capital raises, etc. No doubt UM is a much bigger medical enterprise than HMC.

Also surprised that the medical center is on the PSU budget as PSU HMC and Penn State Healthhave boards separate from but relation to PSU BOT (https://hmc.pennstatehealth.org/about/board-of-directors). It may be that only a portion of the overall HMC activity is carried on PSU books/governed by BOT, while rest falls under other boards/budgets.

>>Wanna' see how BOT Sausage is made:<<

I'm hoping its with former BOT members.

That line would have worked much better in our old "thread" views. ;)
