First, Petey was not a popular pick to be the next Trojan coach after about 2 decades of mediocrity. More of the same was expected. Second, Petey went 6 - 6 his first year and the fans weren't too happy about it. Attendance at USC games was way down. Third, Early the next season USC lost to Washington State of all teams. Now the natives were really restless.
