My apologies is this has been posted previously, I only follow truly meaningful threads about PSU football, recently separated celebrities and crossbow home protection.

So my daughter just smashed her iPhone screen, should I go through AT&T or roll the dice with one of the kiosks (Nittany Mall in SC)? I smashed mine last year (ironically at PSU game, alcohol was involved) and went through AT&T. I have the protection plan, it still cost me around 100 bucks, and would have been twice that except that I hadn't filed a claim before. Because of that claim, I'm looking at 200 beans or so, and the kiosks are usually about $80. I am worried that if some idiot not with AT&T screws it up I'm out the cost of the whole phone (iPhone 7), but don't want to piss away money, especially to AT&T since they cornhole me every month.

Any experiences? Thank you in advance.

My son the same when he was at PSU. We went to the AT&E store and they "unofficially" suggested that we go to the kiosk.

I thought that AT&T's insurance plan was not for all those on their coverage plan, but for any phone for which it was paid for. I believe the coverage allows 2 claims per each phone. After the 2nd claim within a year, coverage on that phone is automatically dropped.

Perhaps you have something different. You should check to make sure.

As for repairs, I've always gone through my cell phone provider, except for the 1 time they sent me to Apple. I've never had much faith in the kiosks, though that's not based on any experience I've had, as I've never used them.

My daughter just had a new screen put on by a local shop. $80 is a good price. Speaking of ATT, while dealing with the recent broken screen I found out ATT was double charging me for insurance on phones. I was on the Family Plan and someone sold me insurance for each phone. Went on for three and a half years. $1300+ extra charge. They wanted to give me a three month $99 credit. Refused and they gave me the $1300+ credit.

Had my iPhone screen replaced at the kiosk at Nittany Mall...no issue. $100, good as new.

Phone insurance is the biggest scam out there, along with extended warranties on anything you buy. Think about it. You paid $100 for a new screen WITH the insurance when you could have gotten one at a kiosk for $80. So you're paying $10 to $20 a month for them to charge you $20 extra?!?! Then if it happens again you get the privilege of paying $120 extra?

The only time insurance is worth it is if your phone needs to be completely replaced. How often does that happen?
