We Are Better!!

He must not have gotten the word that his name will not be on his uniform.

I actually prefer the names on because it makes it easier to watch the game for me. But, I totally understand why Franklin went back to the jerseys without them. And, for the dodos who don't get why OB put them on. Carry on! We didn't have any issues post Nov 2011.

I'm a "dodo" who didn't get why he put them on unless it was dictated from above as Tom indicated. I think O'Brien's explanation is the equivalent of Emmert's claim that a cover-up of Sandusky's actions were the result of a football culture. Neither made any sense.

We remember the athletes who never had names on their uniforms and we won't remember the ones who had the names on their uniforms any better.

Great to see what Coach Franklin and his staff are accomplishing on the recruiting front in a year which is not super strong within state. Of 17 commitments so far, only 3 are from PA. Yet the overall class is top 10 nationally with a very solid average star rating. He is getting guys from MD, NJ, MI, etc.

Clearly a program on the rise.

Too funny, if any "dodo" doesn't "get it", it is likely the doofus dodo you see when you look in the mirror as this excerpt, especially the Coach Franklin quote, from BWI's article on the front-page makes quite clear:

The players' importance to the success of the program, however, is exactly why the fate of Penn State's jerseys matters. And by and large, they've spoken.

Jerseys without names on the back - signifying that no one individual in an ultimate team game has any more importance than any other piece - are overwhelmingly preferred by the hundreds of living Penn State Lettermen. Thursday's announcement by second-year head coach James Franklin that the jerseys would return to their traditional look, held for 125 years previously, was met with great enthusiasm as a result.

"I knew this was important from day one. Any decision you make, there's going to be a percentage either way that don't completely agree. I think this is one that's a little bit hard to argue with because this is a program that was built on history and tradition, success with honor, all the things that we hold so dear to our hearts," Franklin told the media Thursday afternoon. "The fact that we have tradition to embrace, the fact that we have history to embrace and hold onto I think is valuable. There's programs that would give their right arms to have the history and the tradition that we have."

And that, it seems, speaks to the core of why so many Lettermen feel so strongly about a topic that might otherwise seem superfluous.

What a fun tape to watch, lean mean tackling machine. I find him to be very instinctive as a linebacker, but I think he is just too tall to remain at LB. It doesn't show on this film at all, but I think he could be easy to block from the LB position in the college level. I think he is likely going to end up a DE. Of course I am not predicting he will be anything, but I think a good comparable NFL guy is Javon Kearse. 6'4", fast, lean.

I thought this thread was about a new verbal commitment.
When a poster uses the term "dodo" to inflame those who don't agree with him about names on/off the jerseys, you can expect a reaction. Sorry about my contribution to the diversion from the subject.

This class is off to a kickass start. I understood when the names went on and I understand now that they are coming off.

Hopefully more names jump on the "Basic Blues, Black Shoes" train today.

I get it. Dodo was uncalled for. This should be a feel-good thread. PSU received a verbal commitment from a 4-star monster. Let's relish PSU's dominance. :D

Welcome Cam, we already love you...

Do you play him at Middle LB or on the edge to terrorize the back field?

Personally, I would play him right over centre’s helmet screaming in his ear.

6"6" 210 is very impressive any way you play it.

A 210 lb defensive tackle? Man, some people don't know anything about football.

What's the current guesstimate as to how many remaining 2016 scholarships are left?

I can't identify any glaring needs position-wise which is a sign of good recruiting.

Hendricks and Kearse. The "mad stork freak" sounds good to me. Young man has star written all over him. The future just got a whole lot brighter. Welcome aboard Cameron. Looking forward to the days you bring 107,000 to their feet, and put Buckeyes on their back!

I really liked the names also but I also understand that this tradition means a lot to the former players. It was good idea for the time it was in ,and the right idea to change back now.

I agree Knocker. We have some guys that defame and demean when people have a differing view than them on an issue.I will add that "dodo" would be on the lower end of the severity scale but probably uncalled for none the less.

I really think he stays at OLB. There is no such thing as too tall for a position in football. There is too uncoordinated, and a lot of people who are "too tall" are actually too uncoordinated, but that is NOT the case with this kid. He'll use his size to his advantage.

Agree...assuming he keeps his speed. A big, rangy OLB can help on those quick bubble screens. If he gets to 250, and keeps his speed, MLB. If he gets to 270, DE.

I really question if we can take Hansford now... Maybe if wanted to commit this weekend up there, but I think he goes home and we won't be able to take him.
First come, first served i presume. Tickets almost sold out to this show, get them while your still can!
