The rule for the Average is a wrestler must be listed in half of the rankings to be included. Rasheed was in 5 of the 9 rankings, while Morelli was in 4 of the 9, so Rasheed stays in the Average. Associated Wrestling Press posted rankings this week for the 1st time in a month, so this week's Average is a little bit of applies to oranges in terms of comparing it to the previous one (2 weeks ago, due to the holidays). Neither AWP or AWN's rankings were included in the last Average, due to their both being outdated. The computer generated rankings are becoming far more accurate, as they got a lot more data from Midlands and from the Scuffle. If the 2 computer generated rankings (WrestleStats and Dual Impact Index) are excluded from the Average, these would be the Average for the respective PSU wrestlers (with a comparison in parenthesis): Nico - 4th (same), Conaway - 5th (same), Gulibon - 15th (up), Zain - 1st (same), Nolf - 3rd (same), Rasheed - 16th (down), Nickal - 1st (same), Cutch 13th (down), McIntosh - 1st (same), Team - 1st (same). If the average with and without the computer generated numbers remain very similar, then I will stop providing both Averages in the near future.

Intermat and Flo are posted. Penn State has a few nice moves up and one big move down. Overall, the net was positive as Iowa and OSU had some guys drop. Snyder and Martin are now ranked for tOSU; Buckeyes still have some work to do.

I think these are pretty fair. I think Zain would beat Sorenson 2-1 (Early Escape and RT versus late escape after RT gained). Likewise, Tsirtsis.

At this stage, I am wondering if 15th is too high for Jimmy. I'm hoping he gets healthy and adjusts. I think confidence, for him, goes a long way.

Not sure if Rasheed (or whoever our entry at 165) is worthy of a 14th. I think Preisch showed better at Southern Scuffle. If potential is considered, Rasheed is worthy.

No one deserves #1 more than Bo at this point in the season.

A healthy Cutch, I think is no lower than 10th.

Overall, not much with which to argue from a big picture standpoint.

No. They are hopeful (but not optimistic) that he can be back this year.

An issue I had with this week's rankings did not even involve a PSU wrestler.

It's been announced by Ohio State that Kyle Snyder's redshirt is being pulled, and that he'll be wrestling 285 starting in February. To me, it's OK to include somebody like that in preseason rankings, or to hold their place if they are out due to an injury. However, Snyder is a guy that is moving up a weight, and is not planning to wrestle folk for another month. Despite what he did at 197 at NCAAs last year, or what he did at FS Worlds last year, it seems somewhat hasty to me to rank him at this point in folk.

Here's how the various rankings handled Snyder

InterMat:
ranked him #2

FloWrestling:
ranked him #2, and also #10 in the P4P

TOM:
did not rank him

WrestlingReport:

WIN Magazine:
ranked him #1

WrestleStats:

Associated Wrestling Press:

Dual Impact Index powered by National Collegiate Open:

I completely agree. I was not expecting him to be ranked by anyone. Like you said preseason is fine, but getting ranked after missing the first 2 months and not planning to wrestle for another month seems hasty. I would wait until he has at least one match.

100% agree

I, obviously, did not rank Snyder, as I have absolutely nothing to rank him on. The way things look, unless his plans change, he probably won't be ranked until Big Ten's.

And Snyder could make a mess of the brackets at B1Gs. He is only going to wrestle in the PSU dual and MAYBE the Wisconsin dual so he probably does not get a seed at B1Gs. Ugh for someone at 285.

The Big Ten Committee managed to seed Delgado 2nd, and Stieber 3rd last year, so I'll guess Snyder will get seeded. Regardless of what they do, it will steal an allocated qualifier slot from the B1G at 285.

Same with me. He has a preseason ranking, that's coming from his placement from last season, but until he wrestles a match this season, he will never be assigned a ranking.

Fully updated, and Average generated and posted. Associated Wrestling Press posted rankings for the 1st time in a month.

Enjoy
