Who

Who cares where he's ranked. He'll be an improvement in that area.

Absolutely. And if I am correct, Nordin is also a helluva punter... so now we have that cool wrinkle where we can direct snap and punt (hopefully pinning the opposition deep) when a place-kick might not be the best option. At the very least, it forces the other guys to spend time preparing for it. Have to say I'm thrilled to have them both.

Now... get me a LB!!

We were calling for open kicker/punter tryouts two or three years ago. Definitively moving in the right direction quickly post Emmert sanctions

Rockford K picks Penn State over U-M with slick video

When Rockford kicker Quinn Nordin got the idea, he figured: Why not?

Recruiting announcements constantly evolve, and he had the opportunity to make his unique.

With a lifelong friend, Chandler King, who is going to college for video production and a family friend with a private jet, it seemed like an interesting way to announce that he would verbally commit to Penn State over Michigan and Georgia.

"He threw up a storyboard and did it all on his own and made it a special day for me and my family," said Nordin, who did a voiceover for the video and tweeted it today with the hashtag #WeAre for Penn State.

When they went to film at the private jet, the owner asked whether they wanted to go for a flight. So they logged some time circling over Grand Rapids, getting footage for the 28-second video.

It was different enough that many national websites wrote about it -- pretty unusual attention for a kicker, even the No. 1-ranked kicker in the 2016 class.

Nordin also made his decision known on the football field at Rockford. Nordin had nearly a dozen scholarship offers, but Penn State had everything he wanted.

"It's the perfect combination of academics, football, and they also have some great ice cream," Nordin said, referring to the famous "Creamery" in State College. "The people there are great. I just can't get enough of them."

Choosing to leave the state surprised some.

"Nothing rubbed me the wrong way (about Michigan)," said Nordin, 6-feet-2 and 200 pounds. "Michigan is a great program; coach (Jim) Harbaugh, that school is going to be on the rise. That's a phenomenal program; they're going to win a lot of games. For me, the best fit is Penn State. It wasn't a no-brainer. I thought long and hard about Michigan, and I almost went there, but at the end of the day, I'm very happy with my decision."

U-M has a freshman kicker on scholarship this fall in Andrew David, but that obstacle didn't figure in for Nordin.

"I've learned, throughout this process, it's about competition," Nordin said. "You can't run from competition. ... There's always going to be a guy. There's always going to be somebody who's good. ... If they're willing to offer you a scholarship there, they have the faith that you're going to start as a freshman."

I thought I changed the game w/ my poetic announcement on ESPN... Bro... a Kicker just hopped out a private jet for his commitment
