We're thin at LB...

Let's face it unless you are in the playoffs the rest of the bowl game are turning into another semi meaningless practice game. Hell we could have been in a bowl game last year but opted out. They are not what they use to be. The only real positive is you get some of the younger players some snaps.

Yep. Yet we will still have some fans act like their lives have been significantly impacted in an adverse way if we lose the bowl game. 🤦‍♂️

Personally I don’t see how it’s any more meaningless than every game on the schedule after you lose a couple division games. I understand the opt-outs, but to me it’s football, you want to play and you want to win.

This whole statement is completely, 100% false.

I'd argue that the winning school gets $. It also seems to help with recruiting.

And the staff consistently comments that the practices are a very valuable developmental period for the younger players, especially players that may not be starters but will be counted on to be big contributors the next season. And that is in addition to, and complimentary to, the game experience that the young players may get, dramatically increased for some young players in the current environment with the opt out's.

Sounds like PSU 2021 season football is basically over for a few on this board, so I don't understand why they are here complaining.... I mean posting....

Sure getting a bowl game is important but the actual bowl game has morphed into an almost meaningless practice game from the fan prospective or at least my prospective. I like watching PSU FB games even the blowout in non conference play where you get to see some of the young talent at then end of the game. But under CJF I'm not going to get all that upset like I use to if we don't show up. It's a road game so I almost expect us not to show up on the field.

Then why did we pass last year when we could have been in a bowl and even our record???

BTW, both schools win or lose get the same money.

If I recall last year due to covid even with a losing reciod an excetrion was made by the NCAA and we could have played in a bowl game, However after a team vite the team decided to decline and be with their famililes over the holidays.

Exactly. An unfortunate side effect of the National Championship is that if you aren’t in the tournament the rest of the bowls have become almost meaningless. I want to see the younger players get a chance to play and see what they can do.

I watched a few bowl games this year. I saw fights break out, teams sulking near the end of the game, crushing tackles, end zone jubilations, numerous coaches doused in water, and fans and players alike celebrating victories. Someone should tell the players, coaches, and fans that care about these games that we decided the games are meaningless and they should not care.

The model is broken + coaches are walking out on their teams. Why should we expect anything different?
