Playing off of fair’s Army trip... What’s on your bucket list of stadiums? When I talked to Chris Fowler at Nittanyville last week, he said Oregon and LSU are pretty special. They’ve been in my list along with Army, Army/Navy, Georgia, Tennessee (Vol Navy) and every B1G stadium. I’ve already done several trips, but Iowa and Alabama easily top the list of what I’ve done already.

What’s your favorite that you’ve already done or plan to do?

The shoe
The big house (checked off in 94)
Between the hedges
Wisconsin
Nebraska
Texas AM
Washington Huskies
West Point home
Army Navy in philly (checked off last year)
BYU
Colorado
Ole Miss (for the grove)

Heinz Field when Pitt isn't playing either Penn State, WVU or Notre Dame. I'll save it for one of those sunny Saturday afternoons when I'm tired and want a quiet place to have a siesta. And after I wake up I'll get a free beverage.

Good question. Army-Navy is a must. I've been to three - best was when I took my Dad.

Strictly college stadiums, I really have not been to too many. Lane Stadium at Va Tech I like a lot. Great place. Spartan Stadium is nice. Carrier Dome is a dump. Franklin Field is historic, but it's a dump. The Orange Bowl, aside from being old and in a sketchy part of town, I liked it a lot. The Rose Bowl had the worst access in the world. And people complain about Beaver Stadium - SMH.

Aside from West Point and Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis not sure if I have a burning desire to go to a non-PSU game anywhere else. Already planning on going down to Auburn and Mountaineer Stadium. If Temple gets their new place in time for their game that would be neat. We would be the dream opening night for them if they can swing it. Lincoln Field is very impressive to watch football.

I was all set to head down to Pitt-Syracuse at Heinz, but I came down with the flu on Thursday so didn't go. Good thing because we've had passing rain. I'll sit in the rain for Penn State but damn if I'm sitting in the rain for Pitt.

Places I've been:

Penn State @:
Boston College (2004) - 4 picks by Mills.... Ugh the start to what would be a VERY long season.
Wisconsin (2004) - Chris Ganter ended up being our second half QB.... Ugh...
Michigan (2005, 2016) - What stings more, getting blown out, or losing to the referines? I have both those experiences at the Big House.
Ohio State (2006) I swore, I'd never go back
Northwestern (2009)
(Only game I made it to in 2009)
Alabama (2010) Best road trip I've ever been on, their fans were just over the top incredible.
Northwestern (2011) Little did I know, it would be Joe's last road game.
Temple (2015) Ugh - my pick for the lowest point post sanctions.... things only got better from there, but Temple Certainly had their day.
Pittsburgh (2016) - No interest in going back
Maryland (2017) Split crowd - Loved seeing the lions play close to home VS @ Sparty to close out the year

Neutral Site:
Indiana @ Fedex (2010)
Syracuse @ Giants Stadium (2013)
Wisconsin @ Lucas Oil (2016)

Bowls:
Capital One Bowl VS Auburn (2003)
Orange Bowl VS Florida State (2006)
Outback Bowl VS Tennessee (2007)
Capital One Bowl VS LSU (2010)
Rose Bowl VS USC (2017)
Fiesta Bowl VS Washington (2017)

Other games:
Virginia Tech VS UNC (2013)
Virginia Tech VS Boise St at FedEx Field (2010)

Future games I plan on attending
Michigan (2018) - If we're 7-1 - I'm going
Maryland (2019) - Just as easy for me (and cheaper) to see the Lions play at MD as it is at Beaver Stadium
Virginia Tech (2020) - Can't believe we've never played these guys
Purdue (2022) - Figure if there's ever an easy time to get to West Lafayette it would on a long weekend (Labor Day)
Auburn (2022) - Pumped for this matchup
WVU (2024) - Have a few close WVU friends, we've had this one circled since it was scheduled

Games I'd attend if we scheduled a home and home:
Texas
Oklahoma
Washington
Georgia
LSU
Stanford
A&M
Florida

I’ve been to other venues, but not many on my bucket list.

Because of the mountains? I guess your post is legit if you go to football games for the scenery. But..

No. I'm sorry Folsom Field doesn't hold a candle to Beaver Stadium.

so what are they?
They aren’t extensive and weren’t the subject of the OP. Since you’ve asked, I’ve also been to Indiana in Indianapolis, WVU, UVA, and some small college near Ft. Benning GA that I can’t recall. Oh, also went to 94 rose bowl and the kick off classic games in the meadowlands back in the mid 90s

Also saw a game in Pitt Stadium, 1998 I guess. It was a dump.

5 Bowls - '05 Orange (outstanding), Pinstripe (tremendous) Tax Bowl in Jax (terrible), Rose (hate the Rose Bowl Stadium), Fiesta (great). Also CCG in Indy.

NFL fields - Three Rivers Stadium, Fed Ex, old and new Meadowlands, Lincoln. Saw Temple a few times at the Vet.

If I would have saved all that cash I'd be retired now ha ha. And we're not even touching all the trips for Villanova basketball. Or Penn State basketball for that matter (Ga Dome).

Saw them play Oklahoma there years ago. It is just a great place to go to a game. And the atmosphere there is great. It is right by campus too and easy to walk there from town. Not like Beaver which is a pain to walk to from town. It was a shame how that program fell off the map, nearly two decades ago now.

Fair enough... The location of Beaver Stadium isn't exactly convenient to walk to from downtown, but it's doable. Given that Penn St. uses the facility 7-8 times a year, I can see why it was moved to where it currently is. Would be a waste of space if it were still next to Rec Hall. ... At least it's down hill after the games.... It's certainly a hike to get up there prior.

I was at the ASU-CU game today and it was pretty cool, but certainly not in the top ten.

I was at the ASU-Washington game a couple of weeks ago and Husky Stadium may be one of my new favorites from an architectural perspective. It is definitely one the more unique stadiums that I have been to - the overhang on the upper deck is truly impressive (TV does not do it justice in terms of how far out it extends).

I make it a point to visit CFB stadiums when I can (been to 50+ so far). I am going to try and hit Air Force tomorrow.

I’m not sure what this even means

"CU was not loud because they haven't been good in 15 years."

Apparently their fans don't care, because if they did you'd hear them. College athletic programs are a product of the environment they play in. If your environment sucks because the team isn't any good, I see that as a sign that their alumni and fans don't care. I'd think that would make it pretty tough to recruit quality players?

When Penn State was struggling in the early 2000s, the students pulled together to show increased support with the whiteout and made Beaver Stadium the loudest, most intimidating environment in the sport.

So what it means, is Colorado has nice scenery, but their football program sucks and nobody cares. The environment isn't even comparable to Penn State, let alone superior.

Done of note:
Notre Dame
Tennessee
Michigan
Michigan State
Ohio State
Florida
Florida State at night
Iowa at night
Virginia
West Virginia
LSU at night vs Alabama
Penn State's Whiteout is unrivaled

To do:
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Texas
Red River Shootout
Georgia
Miami
Rose Bowl
Wisconsin
USC
Clemson
Virginia Tech
Louisville
Washington
Oregon
Colorado

I want to get back to West Point for a football game. I also would like to see a Harvard/Yale game and a game at Alabama. Of the stadiums I've been to for Penn State games, my favorite was Notre Dame.

I have been to a lot of the major stadiums, and played in a lot o them. However, I would love nothing more than a home/ home with LSU. my #1 PSU and my #2 LSU. Been to many games at both. Both spectacular. It is at the top of my bucket list. LSU fans are nuts, and PSU fans are crazy good. Love to see that series. I would pay a lot for those tickets.
