What can we all do to help the defence get up and win some games? I thought us on the board could make a website for recruits that want to read it and we could put a ton of great stuff about the program and school and it would help get some more recruits (maybe? hopefuly?). Any other ideas their might be we can talk about and brain storm. We need some solutions hear.

Here we go again. Yet another troll. Look yourself in the mirror and ask where did you go wrong in life. Blame yourself, blame your parents, blame drugs/alcohol. I really don't care. Even if you are doing this at work think about how sad it is that you (as a pitt fan most likely) took time out of your day to create this profile. You googled a picture of beaver stadium and saved it to your computer. Being a troll on another teams website is truly pathetic but somehow you find this an acceptable way to live as an adult.

We might learn to use spell check, for starters.

Control what is in your power to control.....Football IQ, Fitness and TECHNIQUE!!!!

We may not be the most talented team but damn it we should be the smartest, the fittest and the most skilled. These are the hallmarks of our teams from the decades gone by. These are the things that are directly under our control. Does anyone teach tackling technique anymore? If they do then, either the kids aren't listening or our coaches are terrible teachers.
We need to be SMARTER with how we evaluate each opponent and SMARTER how we scheme for each opponent. That being said, we need to be HONEST about what "assets" we have at each position and then COACH each game independently and creatively from our last game. You can learn from your mistakes made previous games by at least TRYING NEW THINGS to compensate for the weaknesses you opponents exploit. Start with using the WHOLE field for our offense and followup with using faster developing schemes to move the ball - faster schemes....NOT faster play calling!

My concern is we seem to be trying to "push the same coaching buttons" and expecting different results. THAT IS NOT SMART!!! Get smarter, we will get better faster. Its that simple.

Minny is a pound it on the ground kind of team so I think you need to stay with 4-3-3 alignment a lot. But versus other teams I could see a heckuva lot more of the 4-2-5 scheme even in fairly obvious running downs. Is it better to have another experienced Dback on the field vs. the run or a 6'3", 215lb true frosh LB who doesn't really know what he is doing out there yet?

What appears to be bad tackling is often being a step late getting to the ball carrier. That can be caused by the tackler just plain lacking quickness or being a little slow on the reads or taking bad angles.
Football teams at all levels are now limited by rule how many hours a week they are allowed to hit. This hurts younger and less talented players more than it does the veterans and those for whom it comes easy.

Good observations BB, my thoughts also. These flaws, read & reaction time, will improve with experience.

Alot of great points here, but its still so frustrating to watch. Im still fully on the Coach James Franklin bandwaggon I thought when he was first hired he should be givin atleast 7-8 years to get his system in place and get HIS guys. Once that hits we can finally open up this playbook, confuse some more defences. I know i know injuries are getting the D too but man its tough.

Recruit better - especially for the front 7 - and do a better job of developing the talent that we do get. The front 4 and linebackers need to be bigger, stronger, and better athletes. There is a HUGE talent gap, on both the defensive front and the offensive line, between PSU and schools like OSU, MSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin - and its not all recruiting. A lot of it is how the talent is developed. Wisconsin and Iowa are two schools that routinely have great linemen, on both sides of the ball, and they seldom have a top 25 recruiting class. Franklin and his staff need to prove that they can get similar results - another 2-3 years should be more than enough time to conclude if coaching is the issue as well.
