What is our Plan B if Suriano transfers?

Not sure what Nick is going to do, but I wish him luck. That being said, what exactly is our plan B at 125 this upcoming year if Suriano does leave? It's always fun to have a solid 125 start out the duals with a big win. Just not sure who that 125 will be.

gotta assume Yanovich unless someone at 33 can suck down to 25... I still find it hard to believe he would leave but the longer it goes, the more it seems like it could happen.

On a serious note... we have no idea of "how much longer" it will go on, or even if it is. If he is coming back, at this point it will be for Fall semester. The fact that he is not on campus now could mean he is gone or he is enjoying working camps near home. Since no one in the know is talking , it is all conjecture.

Agree, until there is an announcement that Suirano is withdrawing from PSU or will seek a release, then I assume he is on the team.

What are the true drop dates for Nick to make that decision?
Penn State Fall semester begins August 21, Rutgers not until after Labor Day...if he is coming back he should be on campus by then...He is still listed in the directory so he hasn't officially un-enrolled (sorry if that isn't a word!)....
Edit: still not in the RU people directory- I draw the line with checking public access records...

Students enrolled already have there classes. As i said before people are trying to make something out of nothing. In Cael we trust.

We don't need to repeat our silly arguments. Every year we manage to dive in with new material. I am confident in our ability to be original again this season.
Won't this year be Lee's shirt, and 9 scorers to win, since the Bucknuts have had another year of weights?

I am a firm believer that Iowa should be all in. Pull Lee's shirt. Pull the Warner kid's shirt. Put Max on the mat. Go for it this year, don't wait around.

Three years ago we all got to read on HR how selfish Cael was by redsirting Nico, Zain and Jason. There were multiple cries of how would you like to be Matt Brown as a senior and Cael tells you he is holding back until next year. Tom Brands always puts his best team on the mat, if you are a freshman and are the man Brands is going for it every year.

Some how he just forgot to put Marinelli out there last year.

Put the freshmen Hawks to the test early.

125 Lee
133 Murin (he can make the cut, it is part of the Hawk fun)
141 whoever
149 Brandon
157 Kemdog
165 Marinelli
174 Young
184 whoever
197 Warner
Hwt Sammy

Go for it

As far as 9 scorers. Yep get 9 of them.
Those Ohio State kids are put together. They looked lean, mean and exceptionally athletic winning all of those second, third, fourth, fifth and on down the podium metals.

thats some salty commentary.

Spencer is obviously their best 125 option but he is coming off of an ACL tear. Not sure throwing him out there right out of the blocks is good long term.

Lee along with any other talented freshmen for Iowa is redshirting. With the talent Ohio State and Penn State have returning, everybody else is wrestling for third (at least on paper).

If you will recall, I said it was a smart move by Cael. However, very different situation. Nico and Zain were returning All Americans and would have been contenders. Nolf ended up a runner up at the Scuffle and probably would have been top 4. Lee needs to rehab and gain weight and Warner needs to put on big boy muscle. His match with Moore proved that. Plus, Brands has established himself as redshirting everyone in their first year. As for Marinelli, he wasn't ready...results at Midlands bear it out. So yea...apples and oranges bubba.

Reminded me of 2015 though and I remember what a great job Edinboro did taking 3rd. Outstanding coaching job by Flynn and crew with their six guys. So I did some digging:

Schopp-3rd/#87 Recruit
Port-2nd/#26
Habat-2nd/UR
Avery-3rd/#126
Mines-Rd of 12/UR
Picket-No points/131

PSU Guys:

Guilbon-5th/#3
Brown-1st/#30s IIRC
McIntosh-3rd/#1
Lawson-6th/#22
Conaway-DNP/109
Cutch-DNP/#32
Beitz-DNP/UR

Hell, even in your year off you had 5 top 50s and two top tens. Wonder what would have happened had Flynn been coaching them ;)

With Flynn coaching them, PSU probably does not win 6 out 7 national championships.

One thing Cael does, he allows every wrestler to redshirt sometime during their career. It did work out well for Nico and Zain, they won individual titles the next year where as they probably don't win them in 2015.

the altons have a big say in how that year went. right or wrong but they were counted on when the decision was made and people went down those paths. If the Altons are who "we" thought they were, that season isnt as much of a wash it now is. such is life.

In 2015, PSU had a chance to win the title even with Nico and Zain redshirting if everything broke their way. It didn't break their way.

PSU not winning the title every year is good for college wrestling according to the non-PSU fans.

If Zain wrestled in 2015 he wouldn't be wrestling this year and OSU probably wins it this year. Take your pick. OSU wins it in 2015 or they win it this year. Either way OSU was going to most likely win one of these years with the horse power they have in their line up. Long term Cael made the right decision for not only the program, but for his wrestlers. Zain and Nico had some things to work on during their redshirt and Nolf was a skinny freshman who needed some time get stronger.

Ummm, there really is no such thing as a "Plan B" in the world of wrestling's 9.9 Scholarship Limitation. This is precisely why Cael should not grant a release. Cael should tell Nick that if he wants to wrestle in the upcoming 2017-2018 Season, PSU wants him to wrestle - if he doesn't want to wrestle for PSU, than I guess he doesn't want to wrestle in the 2017-2018 season.
