What kind of message are we sending to the rest of the world with the wall?

...we've got all the American soccer players committed so don't try to recruit them to Mexico to play... :)

That the Federal Taphouse is lit, but you need to climb the wall and 409 steps to get in?

Are the tiles in order of the 409?

Now see, this got me thinking...

They could have considered the wall to be a type of graphical analysis of Joe's career wins.

Starting on the left side of the wall, place the appropriate colored tile horizontally for each win over an opponent. AND, place that tile vertically based on the number of points that were scored. So, the first win over Maryland, where they scored 15 points, would be placed at the first horizontal position and at a point vertically equivalent to the 15 points scored. The next tile, a win over Boston College, where they scored 30 points, would be placed next, at a point that equates to 30 points - i.e. at a higher vertical position than the Maryland tile. So on and so forth.

To really tie it all together, they could have painted a blue "line of best fit" across all the data points.

This would be penultimate nerd sports art for Penn State fans.

EDIT- I just saw the wall is not a rectangle, which would have been perfect for my idea.

Who the hell doesn't have a rectangular wall? Stupid artsy fartsy types.

Floyd has been of significance influence in our country. That was dumb. Anyhow.

There are 409 "non-PSU blue" bricks in the wall, each one representing a victory and color coded for the opposing team color. The colors are supposedly very specific so OSU should look different than Alabama.

If true that is freaking awesome

We Are!! Penn State!!

And we don’t give a (poop) what you think of us.

To the untrained eye, it looks like PSU Spent a lot of time beating Illinois and Syracuse.

Oh, fun. New column about why the Red Sox need to part ways with Bill James because, in part, of his support of Joe Paterno:

Back in 2012, James drew the ire of many when he addressed the controversy at Penn State and defended Joe Paterno by claiming that he did nothing wrong in that situation. James’ overall thesis was that Paterno was not powerful enough to stop what Jerry Sandusky was doing and that the media was forcefully making Paterno a scapegoat for the situation. These comments were, quite obviously, far beyond unacceptable and led to the Boston Red Sox having to issue an official statement regarding the comments made by James.

“Red Sox Owner John Henry & GM Ben Cherington spoke to Bill James regarding him making public his personal opinions on Joe Paterno. In that call, Mr. James was informed that his comments in no way reflect the opinions or positions of the Red Sox. Because Mr. James is perceived as representative of Red Sox, he was asked to refrain from further public comments on this matter. “

Not that I needed it, but just yet another reason to hate the Red Sox.
