A month or so ago, I posted a question about how many rushing yards Barkley will have in 2017, with my only hesitation for not saying infinity was the belief that Barkley would share the rock a little with his other runningmates and the Moorhead offense that takes what the defense gives you. Since then, I've read an article where Barkley was saying that “One of my goals when I got here was I wanted to break every single running back record before I left this place.” WOW! If this driven young man wants to break records, he's not going to just let fate direct the result. He is going to push himself even harder. I wouldn't be against his, but then again, some of these records are pretty difficult to achieve. Below is a list of game/season/career records and the current leaders (for what I could find). Which is these do you think Saquon Barkley will break/set before his career is over at Penn State?

Single Game Rushing: Larry Johnson had 327 against Indiana in 2002

Season Rushing: Larry Johnson rushed for 2087 in 2002

Career Rushing: Evan Royster is currently in first with 3932 yards

Single Game All Purpose Yards: Curt Warner had 341 all purpose yards against Syracuse in 1981

Season All Purpose Yards: Larry Johnson had 2655 all purpose yards in 2002

Career All Purpose Yards: Larry Johnson has 5045 all purpose yards, while

Single Game Rushing TD: Harry Robb had 6 rushing TDs against Gettysburg in 1917

Season Rushing TD: Lydell Mitchell had 26 rushing TDs in 1971

Career Rushing TD: Lydell Mitchell had a total of 38 rushing TDs, while Saquon is at 25 now

Career rushing seems very attainable. Not knowing where he is in other categories, I could see season and career. One thing though is how close games are and whether he is sitting for periods of 4th quarter which will hurt production. But I could see him making a run at 2k and assuming that is possible then single season and career come into play.

In fairness some of those records would require an asterisk. PSU played 2 more games in 2016 than Lydell Mitchell played in 1971.

I think the records can also be misleading. Royster is the career rushing leader because he started all 4 years. That wouldn't happen early if the team had more depth and it wouldn't happen late if the player left early for the NFL. Barkley has 2,572 rushing yards so he only needs 1,361 to beat Royster. I expect him to do that which is pretty amazing since Barkley will have only played 3 years. It's also amazing considering Barkley played behind a weak OL early in his career.

No way do I expect Barkley to break LJ's single season rushing record. That probably only happens if we were a one dimensional run first offense and that's unlikely with our QB, WRs, and TE. In fact I expect Barkley to get fewer carries this year than he did last year. The exception would be if Barkley was one of the top 3 Heisman candidates in November. In that case CJF might try to get Barkley some extra (unneeded) carries.

If he's going to be breaking records, I'm keeping my doo-woo '45s under lock and key.;)

I'm not saying which or or if any of these records will define Saquon Barkley as the greatest runningback in Penn State history, I'm just asking which of these records he will break.

I am hopeful, perhaps confident, but not yet sold on our offensive line this year.
I #26 stays healthy, I'd see 2,000 yards but I think we are so deep at RB he ends up in the 1600 range due to lack of carries.

In the end, I want back to back B1G championships and I think he does too.

Add in to the mix that he runs great routes, has great hands, and is a complete mismatch for LBs. He could get an awful lot of receiving yards too.

Agree. I also think defenses play to stop the run, like this did last year. That means a lot of passes. I love what he did last year. If we duplicate the second half of last year's offense, we are going to be just fine.

There is only 1 Penn State record I'd like to see Barkley reach this season.......3rd RB to lead his team to a National Championship!
