I don't know the answer so it's definitely not a trivia question. What school do you think has the most football season ticket holders that live more than 60 miles from the school?

Nebraska? Penn State? Others?

Well, if you’re going by just the highest number, start with the schools that give out the most season tickets. Don’t think it would be Michigan or Ohio State, considering the large cities within 60 miles of their campuses so Penn State is probably the winner.

Atlanta is 72 miles from Athens, GA so the Dawgs likely are one.

I was at the Kentucky @ Tennessee game and that is really more of a cultural fanbase of East Tennesseans. Chattanooga, Johnson City and Nashville are all over 100 miles from Neyland.
Tennessee has about 80k in total non student season ticket holders. I believe that’s 4th behind UM, OSU and PSU so that a solid guess. UGA has about 8-9 k less ticket for sale

I think a lot of Wyomings season ticket holders are in Laramie or Cheyenne WY.

True. I was thinking it’s a sparsely populated state likely meaning a lot of travel. You’re right though- Cheyenne is only about 50 miles away. I thought it was further.

Having been there twice in the last 2 years I think there are many similarities to PSU from a fanbase perspective. Definitely a lot of folks root on the Vols who likely have little or no direct connections to the University itself- maybe 40% or more.

Had a cute old couple sitting behind us this year- every bit of 85 years old each. He had on his NASCAR style headphones listening to play by play and had no idea how loud he was yelling while muttering to himself. She played the ole Southern Belle/ supportive wife role very well (but still was rolling hers eyes occasionally).

I'm coming to love my trips to Rocky Top. Will go again next year.

IDK, but PSU is in the middle of nowhere. Population centers are all >60 miles away...Philly, Pitt Allentown, Scranton. DC has the biggest alumni base outside PA and its 3.5hrs away. NYC is about 4. Baltimore about 3.5.
If the assumption is correct that a big stadium in a rural area would be the winner, I'm not sure who beats PSU.

You’d be surprised by how many there are from Centre County and neighboring counties though. Great fans come in from Altoona, Johnstown, Billyport, Dubois, and all points in between. Not sure what that number is but I saw a zip distribution for the 2019 season and was surprised at how concentrated it was in Pa…

Rt 22 and I99 from Pittsburgh to State College are packed on game days

There is no more popular team in the state than the PSU Nittany Lions. The nation stretches far and wide! What’s more impressive is the number of kids that are in town on game day as the torch is passed on to the next gen.

We attended the Vols vs Miss State night game @ Neyland. Great stadium atmosphere, though the stadium seems to be lacking maintenance as bathrooms were in poor condition (rust, old paint, etc). Very steep seating. Because we had eight in our group the only seats we could get together were one row from the very top of the stadium in one of the corners.
Campus is very nice, hilly. Prior to game ate in a Market Square restaurant (very good), already forgot the name. Strolled from there to campus. Liked the stream flowing through campus with the walking bridge. Disappointed in Vol navy. They must have lost a naval battle because their flotilla was only about 2 very large yachts and three smaller cabin cruisers.
Their tailgating can't compare to PSU, lacks green spaces. The folks were friendly. Band march to stadium was cool, especially it being during dusk heading into a night game. Overall, glad we went and I'd go again.

Texas A&M would be on that list for sure. College Station is much like State College, very small and it is surrounded by nothing but small rural towns and it's over 50 miles to both Austin and Houston, the 2 closest major metro areas.

Right. But Austin and Houston within 50 miles.

State College has what? Harrisburg? Maybe 50 miles away?

Austin and Houston are both close to 100 miles away, depending on what part of the city you want to measure from. Houston in particular has massive suburban sprawl for many miles in every direction. Regardless, both meet the OP's criteria.

Ta&m stadium holds over 102K. I didn't realize that. Would definitely fit the same profile as PSU.
Also, for the person that mentioned Harrisburg, it's 93miles from PSU.

The stat I recall from the mid ‘80’s is that the average Penn State fan travels more than 100 miles to watch football games in State College.

The band marches down Peyton Manning Pass. Very appropos. I've seen two games at Neyland and never saw more orange in my life those days.
