What the heck is wrong with Marstellar?

Not sure why people are surprised. Try even working a desk job dehydrated and hungry - see how even minute fine motor skills are compromised. Imagine the impact on gross motor skills that take more energy.
Not sure hydration has that much to do with it. The new weight certification rules require that wrestlers be completely hydrated when determining their minimum weight, or they come back later for another attempt. Hard to fake the specific gravity of your urine. Sucking excessive weight shouldn't happen anymore, so sounds like a combination of things. I'm with the crowd that wants to see Chance succeed, except against our guy.

You're predicting an appearance in the finals of the Southern Scuffle and a win over a returning All American who will be in the NCAA finals at the end of the season?
Yes, and even better if his RS is pulled he will beat Nolf sometime this season. Now you have something to talk about!

well, unless they are specifically watching the 'sample' being given.... even HS kids water down their urine one way or another and HS is even more strict...

Well, he should be at the Scuffle no matter if his RS is pulled or not. So, I guess we will see then. I have a feeling Togs will be eating some serious crow on this one and I think JoJo is going to be great.

Sorry, not buying it. The protocol is tight and the consequences for falsifying this stuff is too great to take a chance.

I do think Jo jo Is awesome and getting better but that is a bet I would definitely take....I really hope they meet at the scuffle

What are the consequences? Honestly curious as I've never heard of a punishment being handed down. I know for a fact that this happens at the lower NCAA levels.

so what exactly is the protocol? I do know that some of these kids don't have a lot of body fat so certifying just a few pounds below could be difficult if fully hydrated. All I'm saying is - how easy is it to switch samples when you're giving them.... what is the supervision like? I know is HS it isn't difficult (maybe depending on what State you're in)

All I can speak for is Penn State...does anyone really believe Cael & Co. cheat?

1) Public or private reprimand;

2) Financial penalty of $100 per institution or $50 per individual up to a
$300 maximum penalty;

3) Disqualification of individual contest(s);

4) Disassociation of the institutional staff member from all team activities
for one or more competitions. If the violation occurs during the last
event of the season, the disassociation carries to the next season;

5) Team records or performance adjusted;

6) Event excluded as an NCAA registered contest in the NWCA OPC
system the subsequent season; and

7) Other penalties the NCAA Wrestling Rules Committee deems
appropriate.

When warranted, the NCAA Wrestling Rules Committee has the authority
to investigate reported violations and determine the appropriate penalty or
penalties.

The Wrestling Weight Management Program document is about 55 pages long. Here's 2 bullets;

-- Record date of test and have wrestler provide a WITNESSED urine sample.
-- A same gender member of the institution’s athletics medical staff (for example, physician,
certified athletic trainer or registered dietician) shall be required to visually witness the student-
athlete produce a urine sample. The student-athlete must deliver the sample directly to
the witness who ensures its delivery to the medical professional whose responsibility it is to
determine body hydration.

that is what I was asking about - the witness part. Now, purely from a devils advocate view - maybe it is watched over like illegal immigration...
thanks for the data!

Chickenman, not trying to make light of his weight cut, if he can't make it then he can't and next person up. I feel for Chance but John feels he's not doing it right. As for what he isn't doing right I have no idea. Hope he does and have a great career at OSU.

If Chance fails, it surely won't help OSU recruiting Pa in the future.

Haha...lol @ witnessed

Any of you ever serve in the military? According to one of my friends, one of the more crappy details is to serve as the pecker checker for the random urinalysis program. Now, every time my friend had the misfortune to get volunteered to do this detail, he had to initial the bottle and sign some paperwork saying he witnessed it. You wanna know how many times he actually saw it? He figured two things: 1)He didn't get paid to check out other guy's packages 2)If someone had the ingenuity to somehow anticipate a random test, be ready to strap a fake dong or other such device to themselves and use it, then my friend figured that the individual deserved to pass the test and is probably an asset to his mission.

Now my friend has never got called back on a positive but he'd swear on a stack of bibles that he witnessed each and every pee test.

Won't make any difference at all. Can't see too many kids looking at Smith's Olympic medals, his national titles, his recent results with Dieringer and Perry and Oliver, then concluding "but Marsteller didn't do so well."

Chief - I'm not sure which is worse, being the checker or the checkee. But my friend told me he didn't like being checked out either. Actually, being the checker is worse because you have to do it multiple times per day for a whole week. At least that's what my friend said.

I think that was only done in the Iowa army. Never heard of such a thing during my tour in the US Army.

Haha...both of our friends agree...it sucks. Yea, every once in awhile you get the monitors who take it real serious. They will be the hall monitors in hell IMO.

We are both Air Force. They probably didn't do drug testing in the U.S. Army because it would seriously hurt retention rates...they probably figure 1 of 2 of you all are high anyways so why bother. ;)

Didn't know Iowa had an air force. Were the planes hand held?

Well from what I have read or heard Chance never had to cut weight.
Unless he fiquers out how to do this right he will have problems at 157.
Gosh Sat after about 2 mins in first you could see him wearing down. Gosh Nolf would pin him in first period.
Myself hope he can adjust someway cause I hate to see a person with his talent not be able to perform at his best.

Not at all?I didn't say that Smith couldn't over come the objection, but to suggest that it won't make it harder for Smith to overcome that hurdle with the next PA super star is a bit naive imo.

What hurdle? Do you really think Spencer Lee or Gavin Teasdale or Sammy Sasso or Seth Janney are worried about that at all?

Of course not. Chance hasn't failed has he? We'll see how it plays out with Chance. When it comes to big time recruiting (or any recruiting) it's a sales game. Sometimes negative recruiting works, sometimes it doesn't. Let's hope Chance turns it around and it never becomes a negative selling point. Chance is a great kid.
