How is a day that a Texas union solder said "no more slavery in Texas" somehow symbolic of the end of slavery in America (which wasn't until the 13th Amendment was ratified 6 months later)?
Ironically, Texas, where this holiday originated, didn't ratify the 13th Amendment until 5 years after Juneteenth.
Juneteenth is about as dumb as Columbus Day, and certainly plenty of people want to get rid of that.
