When was the last time you liked PSU's 2 deep at offensive line?

If Noah Beh gets his crap together we heard he's probably our best ot

2017 at worse Beh is the third OT (not third string, #3 in any pecking order)

I don't bet, but if I did, I'd put good money against that being the case.

Did limegrover do that or did 72 do that ??

Correct. His assignments, blocking, toughness, and leadership, was very good. His snaps, were inconsistent, and in that offense, that's a setback. Limegrover made him a better blocker though.

If Mahon can come back fully healthy - and that's a big IF - the left side of the PSU O Line may be as good as any in the country.

Isn't that a nice idea
I really can't believe how well that kid played. The early indications were not good. I thought, at best, that he might eventually round into a decent RT. I love a pleasant surprise.

Still blaming this on me Judge? This is a stalker.
You've accused me a dozen times at least of not knowing squat about PSU football, you fool. You can't handle the truth. Nothing is made up, just using your own words, tupitsa. You've made your own bed.

You're a stalker, and you're pathetic.

Ron Graham was the most under performing recruit in Joe's era.

I recall Graham having some injury issues (leg). Also recall how everyone freaked out when he took an official to MSU during his senior season. Shamar Finney was another 5* LB who didn't live up to the hype. Certainly some swings and misses with some recruits back in the day.

Nelson tore his ACL mid October? You think he'll be 100% 10 months later and taking first team reps when camp opens? That seems unrealistic.
No way he'll be 100%. He is a warrior but I never bought into the fact that he was one of our best offensive linemen.

No way Wright will beat out Nelson if he's healthy
Mahon and Nelson at tackle position will be fantastic

Nelson was hurt in the MD game. In the Kent/Pitt/Temple/Mich/Minn games all before he was hurt, Barkley rushed for 380 yards on 86 carries (4.42 yards per carry).

Skipping the Maryland game, since Nelson played some.. From the OSU to USC game, Barkley rushed for 914 yards on 155 carries (5.90 yards per carry).

I know everyone wants Nelson to succeed, he seems like a really good kid, but not sure the stats back up that he is a better player than Wright

Barkley's production did start to dip after Mahon went out in the Iowa game, but Barkley was also dealing with an injury.

A Healthy Andrew only makes Penn State better. One thing that is finally, and verifiably, for certain: With Limegrover in charge, if he is the best player, he will play, if he is not, he will be a great backup and will come in and play great if Wright goes down.

Since we got practically everybody from PSU's three deep OL back in '95, would that make IT a better line than '94?
Didn't Andre Johnson - one of the top LT in the country - graduate after 1994? And then get drafted in the 1st round of the NFL draft

I could be mis-remembering - was he 1994 or 1995?

And Kyle Brady was as good a blocker as having a third OT on the field........ Seriously
And he left after 1994

My take...

1st Team

LT - Mahon (RS Sr)
LG - Bates (RS Soph)
C - Menet (RS Fr)
RG - McGovern (Soph)
RT - Wright (RS Jr)

Mahon was named ProFootballFocus' top offensive tackle two separate weeks before going out with an injury. Bates made several All Freshman teams and was outstanding stepping in at LT. Menet was one of the top interior line recruits two years ago and was a 5 star on Scout. McGovern was really good 2nd half of the year at a true frosh starter. Wright was a huge surprise, going to be a battle at that spot between he and Fries.

2nd Team

LT - Fries (RS Fr)
LG - Gonzalez (RS Soph)
C - Miranda (Fr)
RG - CJ Thorpe (Fr)
RT - Nelson (RS Sr)

Coaching staff spent weeks on conference calls with 21 Guns going back and forth whether to pull his redshirt. Gonzalez started the 2nd half of the year and was solid. Franklin raves about Miranda, he apparently went under the radar, got a ton of big time offers late but never wavered. A killer. Thorpe went to All American practices and stoned top defensive tackles all week. Nelson was our best offensive linemen before going out with knee injury. Hope to see him come around as season goes on.

3rd Team

LT - Jenkins (RS Soph)
LG - Beh (RS Jr)
C - Simpson (RS Soph)
RG - Brosnan (RS Jr)
RT - Gellerstadt (RS Fr)

Before we start blowing each other over an "experienced" offensive line need I remind you what a good college offensive line looks like?! Are we that far removed from the Big Ten championship game we forget! Sorry fellas but we're nowhere near there yet. The Lime Grower has his work cut out.

I recall Graham having some injury issues (leg). Also recall how everyone freaked out when he took an official to MSU during his senior season. Shamar Finney was another 5* LB who didn't live up to the hype. Certainly some swings and misses with some recruits back in the day.

A certain percentage of recruits are going to be busts, because of injuries or other factors. The old formula used to be that a third of your scholarship players would be two year starters, a third would be backups and a third would not contribute.

It's different now. Clearly the coaches know more about the people they're recruiting due to all the camps and all-star events. And the average 3-star or 4-star recruit is so much better prepared and ready to play college football than they were 25 years ago.

The other thing that's so different is that the top recruits are only staying 3 years -- sometimes after only starting for one season.

I find it quite interesting that in 2015, the staff was on the border line of removing the redshirts of Bates and Gonzales, and the next year, Bates and Gonzales are not only ending up as starters, but as assets on a good offensive line. Fries and Menet, were discussed in the same way in 2016, which, if history serves, would be good news for an even better situation in 2017, regardless of whether they end up starters or not. For the record though, Menet looks to be the man at Center this spring. Everyone will be pushed though, and obviously Nelson will be held out this spring. What was most interesting last year, was that with that plethora of injuries, when the next man up came in, we stayed the course. Limegrover is the best line coach in the Big Ten, and maybe the nation. Franklin bringing both Matt and Joe into the fold, has changed the course of history for this program, offensively.

I know not many are very confident that Bey will contribute this year, and I don't know what information they are basing this on. Some referred to the anemic answer JF gave at his press conference when the questioned was asked about Beys' status. I wouldn't expect JF to provide any different type of response since he is tight lipped about non-performing players.

Bey was on the side-line for several games in street clothes, so he is still with the team. Anyway, if he participates in spring practice, and there is no indication he won't, don't be surprised to see an OL of Bey at LT and Mahon at RT. With Bates, Menet, and McGovern in the middle, SB will have an even better season.

If anyone has any confirmed information that Bey will not be with the team in 2017, please elaborate.

Didn't Andre Johnson - one of the top LT in the country - graduate after 1994? And then get drafted in the 1st round of the NFL draft
Our 1995 OL:

ST Andre Johnson (1st Round)
SG Marco Rivera (6th Round)
C Barry Tielsch
LG Jeff Hartings (1st Round)
LT Keith Conlin (6th Round)

Throw in FB's Witman & Milne and this is one of the finest groups of blockers in CF history IMHO
