Where does Trace McSorley go in the NFL Draft? *

It's going to be very interesting to see what happens with Trace. How much is his height going to be used against him? I could see him going late day 2 or any point on day 3 but if he measures under 6'0" I won't feel good about him being drafted.

Personally, I would want my back-up QB to be as similar in everything --- (playing style, pocket presence, speed, scrambling, athletic ability, arm strength, size) --- to my starting QB as possible. This way, if my starting QB ever got injured, then my transition to the back-up would hopefully be as seamless as possible because I'd be putting in a "clone".

......... that being said....... If I were the GM of the Cleveland Browns I would take McSorley if he were sitting there 5th or 6th round. If anything ever happened to Baker Mayfield, what better plug-in than Trace McSorley?

It will depend almost entirely on senior bowl week, senior day, how he tests in his individual workouts. I'll guess 4-6 round and it's all about that one team seeing in him what CJF saw in him. I think a lot of spots would be good landing for him - how about Washington, NO, Jax to name three?

With the 223’rd pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the ________ select Trace McSorley.

I sincerely appreciate everything Trace has brought to and accomplished at PSU, but I don’t see any intelligent GM expending a pick on him other than as a mere “gesture”.

As I type these words, I know they are going to come back and bite me in the ass, probably around Round 5 :)

6th or 7th rd. I read that there were scouts from the CFL there at one of the last home games

The Giants can’t afford to wait until the 3rd round for their QB.

Gettleman isn't the type of GM to reach for a QB. I don't see them taking anyone in the first round. Gettleman is all about "talent" which is why he went against the norm and took Barkley at 2. He got the best player at 2.

People are just saying the Giants because they have Barkley and Haley but I don't see McSorley as a fit. Daniel Jones and Jarrett Stidham are two guys I think the Giants will/could target.

For everyone saying he won’t get drafted, the NFL would not have invited him to the senior bowl if they thought he was a FA QB

Last year's roster included Mayfield, Allen and Lauletta but also
Luke Falk--6th Round
Tanner Lee--6th Round
Mike White--5th Round
Brandon Silvers--UDFA

2017 included a third round pick and two fourths but also
Sefo Liufau--UDFA
Nathan Peterman--5th Round
Antonio Pipkin--UDFA

Going to the Senior Bowl doesn't make someone a lock to get drafted.

I’d expect somewhere in the middle of day 3. I think it’s a long shot for him to ever make an impact in the NFL, but he’s got a great skill-set for Canada and could have a lot of success up north.

That's because the NFL wants to get a better look at some guys and talk to them. Some improved their draft status. Those that didn't do well didn't get drafted. They obviously want to get a better look at him Einstein.

I agree with you. I simply stated that him going doesn't mean he's definitely going to get drafted which is why some are saying UDFA. Again, if he measures in at 6'0" or above I believe he will get drafted. I'm afraid he's around 5'10" or 5'11" without Brees's arm or Russell's accuracy.

Ah the NFL didn’t invite him. The promoters of the Senior bowl did. None of them work for the NFL, most are broadcasters
So they have a job to put on a good game on one hand, but to do that they need QBs. Many of the top draftsble QBs skip the game so thru need to give a guy like TM a chance, which is probably all he wants. Here’s hoping he makes the best of it

My head tells me he goes FA and tries to impress someone in training camp.

my guess is the third round. RPO is becoming more and more of a "thing" in the NFL. Trace has great leadership and will be a pleasure to be on any NFL sideline. Plus, his height is no longer the detractor it once was (thanks Baker Mayfield). A big key will be what arm strength he demonstrates in the combine and various pro days. He continues to under throw deep passes and hasn't shown proficiency in the endzone corner/fade to someone not 6-6.

Also, just not very many good QBs coming out this year. If an NFL team feels they need to build up their QB position, not a lot of directions to go in.
