Which Penn State Football player has a breakout season next year?

He's so good already that the whole notion may seem laughable, but I think Saquon is just gonna explode onto the national scene this coming season. Barring injury (I hate to even think of that possibility), he is gonna put up over 1,500 yards, and a host of highlight reel plays. He should be in the thick of the Heisman race.

Curtis Cothran. He had stretches where he played at an All B1G level DT. I think he will get there this year.

Also I wouldn't be totally shocked if Brandon Smith starts and leads the team in tackles. He is the most instinctive LB on the team, and I can't ever recall him messing up a play or missing a tackle.

I agree on Brandon Smith. His good instincts (at least IMHO) make up for any physical shortcomings he might (or might not) have. He is a winner.

DeAndre Thompkins. He showed shades of his talent last year. DeAndre's all growed up now, listed at 5'11" 190. Speed, hands, high pointing, the whole bit. He has a little showboat in him with gestures that I could do without and could prove costly.

Juwan Johnson, Nick Scott, Zach McPherson, and Nick Bowers.

Nice picks. I'm looking for Nick Scott to win the open starting Safety spot. And McPherson may be our punt returner this year. I watched him return kicks in a national H.S. all star game before he got to PSU and he has some jets. And we really need Bowers to come back strong from his injury, especially with run blocking to add to the improving OLine.

We have a number of younger guys who have already shown some ability and some older guys who keep improving like Cothran.
If " breaking out " means bursting onto the scene, then I guess Simmons, Menet, Wade or maybe even Hippenhammer or McPhearson as a returner. If it means going from making a limited contribution to a big one, then I am guessing maybe Cothran, Charles, Givens, Sanders.

I like Blacknall on offense and Bowen on defense. They should both have some special motivation.

Also think Bowen has a big year. Younger guys? I think Wade and Simmons live up to the hype. Would love to see Sanders turn the corner too - he's close...

Hope our big 3 WRs on offense, Charles, Johnson and Blacknall. On defense, DL Chavis, LB Brown and a safety to step in next to Allen.

Blacknall
I went with Blacknall last year and injuries and team suspension prevented him from breaking out (other than the B1G CCG).

This year I'll go with Koa Farmer. If he can put on a few more pounds of muscle without losing any speed, he will nicely fill the LB void left by BBell's graduation. So many returning starters on offense makes this tough to pick one on that side, but I'll go with Polk returning from injury and/or Menet solidifying the interior line.
