Not declining. Last year we caught some lighting in a bottle and got ahead of schedule. This year a bit of the reality has stepped in. However IMO:
1. Franlklin is a good HC. He is learning and open to evolving while bringing in good cutting edge assistants. He will only get better and so will the program.
2. These seniors were a bunch of talented tweeners who have done well by the program. Who came here when it still wasn't cool...
3. We are still recovering from sanctions and evidence of that is in lack of depth.
4. PSU will continue to improve and become a consistent top tier program again, if it isn't already.

While this is true I would argue that we are already ‘there’. You don’t get to #7 in the first real poll that matters by looking at recruits.

I certainly agree on the depth issue. If TJB hadn't had the game of his life against us, we may be in a different discussion, however.
If we beat OSU this team believes it's own hype and blows it against Nebraska or Maryland, or in the conference title game. That's where it was headed.

Not necessarily. There's a difference between confident and cocky. If they had beaten OSU, then played with confidence at MSU they'd likely have won fairly handily. As it was, many looked like they were still shell shocked or resigned to less than perfection.
