Not going to the Rose Bowl, but wondering who is the home team? Are we home because we are highest ranked, or do they alternate? Went to '95 Rose Bowl, and even though we were highest ranked, we were visitors. To those of you going, have a safe and great trip! Thank you. WE ARE!

I believe we will be considered the home team, but in reality they will be as they will have a huge fan turnout playing at home.

Because of higher ranking, we are... iow, we get to wear the blue jerseys... a color we have not lost in this year. Hopefully we'll continue that streak next year!

No doubt. But we'll be near 50-50. Demand out of control and very few seats left on our side on secondary market....plus we're whitewashing the Rose Bowl....oh yes, WE ARE!!!

Stubhub shows quite a few more available on our side compared to USC...

Thanks very much to everyone who replied. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Hope the New Year is very happy around 8:30 p.m. on January 2! WE ARE!

Not necessarily true - PSU had massive fan support in both the 1995 and 2009 Rose Bowls. In addition, USC is notorious for having very "fair weather" fans who really do not support the team that well when the outcome of the game is basically irrelevant and anticlimatic to them advancing their season.

BTW, us being the official "home team" of the bowl primarily means that we will be wearing the "Home Uniforms" (i.e., Dark Jerseys) more than anything else.

It was 60-40 USC in 2009. I think it will be about that this time also.

So you say.....I can claim it was 55-45, etc.... You're declaration that 2009 was "60-40" is hardly an irrefutable factual reference. Beyond that, a 60-40 advantage in an open air bowl stadium is hardly some massive "home field advantage" and would not allow either side to generate sufficient noise to be disruptive to the opposing team's offense. The "travel" element is really irrelevant as PSU will be making the West Coast trip a week before the game so they can participate in the Bowl-sponsored, planned and organized team activities and festivities mixed in with their game preparations and practices.

This huge massive "home field advantage" for USC (and other Pac12) teams is a complete myth and a weak excuse used by scUM and daO$U for all their losing in the game which had more to do with them being forced to play a top team with non b1g shizhole officials than any "home field advantage".....

Even Joe said USC had a huge Home Field advantage in 2008/09.

He thought he had an agreement to practice at UCLA, but the PAC 12 stepped in at the last minute and told him to pound salt. He had to bus the team 35 minutes one way every day just to find a place to practice, and had to cancel at least 2 or 3 of them due to time constraints. He thought it really negatively affected his game prep.

Chris Fowler says any time you have to play USC or UCLA in the Rose Bowl, the Big Ten Team will always be at an enormous disadvantage. The PAC 12 and Pasadena, although socially very hospitable, will give the PAC 12 team, especially if it's USC or UCLA, every benefit of the doubt.

You can't compare a USC home crowd to PSU CROWD, Even a 60/40 split for USC and the crowd noise will be even.

Have no idea what the circumstances were in 2009, but I believe The Bowl provides both teams with accommodations to practice at this point. BTW, the Rose Bowl Committee works for both the B1G and Pac12 Conferences and your attempts to imply that the Rose Bowl is sponsored solely by the Pac12 is patently false.

This I agree with almost totally, especially the fabricated excuse for UM and OSU, who so often laid eggs in the Rose Bowl.

I have zero statistical argument here... zero. But as someone who has visitors from the cold north visit florida at this time of year, I'd wager the weather is a factor.. simply because when people come into beautiful resort weather they slow down.. they relax. Those living in this weather experience no change at all. It's business as usual.

So while it's a pleasure to avoid the chilly/snowy/frigid temps, I'd say it takes a bit off the edge and has a greater impact on the visitors. That notwithstanding, I'm sure the visitors are a lot happier playing in california or florida as opposed to detroit, nyc, or annapolis. lol

Again, probably no backing for my opinion.. but it "seems" logical. :)

I'd rather be playing USC in good old Beaver Stadium. I want to win.

Never said the Rose Bowl was "sponsored solely by the PAC 12". Just said that when push comes to shove, USC and UCLA will always get the benefit of the doubt.

If you make travel plans based on the assumption you will be practicing at UCLA, and then you are told when you get there that the PAC 12 put pressure on UCLA to rescind the invitation, it puts a real dent in your game prep. We weren't planning to have to travel 35 minutes one way to practice. Joe had to cancel at least two or three practices due to time constraints.

That alone gave USC a huge advantage. Especially due to the fact that Chris Devlin had just walked out on the team and we were without a known element at backup QB.
